Unhappy

Well the title says it all really.

I have just been made redundant from the IT consultants where I have worked for just short of 4 years since I left school at 16. Although I have been expecting it for a few months (Our accounts did not look to good) it is still a big shock. I took a cup of tea in to my meeting totally unaware what was about to happen. After a few minutes I went to take a sip of my tea and my hands was shaking so much I spilt the tea everywhere.

I have been given my redundancy fee which is just short of £3500 ( plus my monthly wages. Now I have to work until 30th September in an uncomfortable situation as 2 people from the whole company (12 people) are staying on to fight another day.

The only plus is that I have an interview for a new job in 2 weeks that I have had planned for a month, you never know it might be great timing. A new job along with £3500!!

Just releasing my stress.

Good luck with the job hunting. Not a nice situation to be in. Remember to try keep positive and spend at least 1h a day job hunting. If you haven't already, get your CV out to some agencies and call them on a weekly basis (in a friendly, not desperate way ) to remind them you're still looking.

Darren,

Good luck with job hunting m8,

With the hands shaking isn't that a symptom of stress. Go see the doctor m8, he might sign you off for a bit .... say til the 30th Sept !

Have you got enought websites for job hunting or do you want people to post some up?

Dave.

Good luck with the job hunting

I have been made redundant in the City three times with a redundancy payment each time and then found another job within a couple of months , better than the last one!!!

Keep hunting around and good luck with the interview. this could be the start of something bigger and better.
Good Luck

Aye - there's a lot of it about. Found out 10 days ago It was "at risk", 7 days ago it was more than just a risk - left work Last Friday contract terminates This Friday

I guess I don't have the working on problem - but after 10 years service it all feels a bit weird - in fact it feels ******* weird. Still not rushing into anything - good thing about 10 years service is you at least get a reasonable "settlement".

However - there has been some financial juggling going on - not least of which the UK300 has to go - Paying huge insurance premiums, depreciation that would scare even the wealthiest fat cat and fuel figures that should have Greenpeace camped outside your house just doesn't work if you aint got a regular income !

Getting an Audi instead - at least it's a quattro so I should still be able to have some fun

Good luck with the Job hunting - I think I'm going to set up on my own - any advice on how to do that greatly appreciated !

Jase
Edit for shocking spelling of GreAnpeace

If you do your own thing, you need to be 110% committed to it, and feel unpressured financially. The best advice I had was to put three months' living money in a bank account and *never* touch it - that way, you've got three months' to get a job if the worst comes to the worst. Then go *****-out work-wise, investment-wise and make it happen. That way, you can always say you gave it everything rather than "if only I'd had more...xxxx".

I work as a SAP consultant and the IT industry is dying on it's feet.

I am sure you will land the other job and have loads of lovely lolly to spend.

Pity about having to work the month in hand. They should let you go now to jobhunt. Tight B**tards.

Good luck.

The best bit is you don't have to pay any tax on the £3.5k

I got my last job through Hays - they specialise in consultancy and other similar jobs. Got me 4 interviews within 24hrs !

Worth contacting them and see what they say - if you do something 'specialist' - I think they are pretty good.
