Just heard on the news that the Asian comunity in Bradford want to use the river Aire to spread the ashes of their dead rather than travel to the Ganjes
I'm local to Bradford, upstream thankfully but I still don't want dead people in my local river, thank you very much! It might be the done thing in other countries but it certainly isn't here!
I don't mean this to turn into a racist thread, I wouldn't want anyone's body in the river, all of my coments are IMHO aswell before anyone starts

it's only a bit of ash... I wouldn't worry about it too much. Much more toxic stuff is poured into Britain's rivers on a regular basis. When the wife's uncled died we chucked his ahes in the sea, and nobody seemed too bothered about him eventually entering the human food chain...

Bob,
Also being local you have to, you have to laugh when you think they want to put their relatives ashes in the 'Aire' as I know I definately would not.
You may as well just flush it down the bog LOL!!! It's no different.
Damian.

Yeah I spose our rivers are full of crap but still, there's no need to put dead folk in there
Seemingly they want to make part of the river "holy", yeah, like it says in the (insert name of Hindu Fingmy here) thou shalt go to Bradford and make the river Aire holy

The reason they want to use the river Aire is because they cant afford to go to India,WTF!!!!!theyve got loads of money and im sure with their extended family they could all scrape the money together.
Just another STUPID idea from these labour(**** scared councils)upsetting the minorities and i bet it wont be long before they change the name of the river to some Hindu name.

they have got loads of money? rather a sweeping statement. Do you know the financial status of every family in bradford then?
Dont try and argue logic with any religion, religions are anything but logical. If they want a section of water to be "holy" then it will be so, it doesnt mean it's changed its chemical makeup, just in their eyes its changed in its meaning.
The issue becomes contentious however if they want an area of land set aside purely for their use because it is now "holy" and they restrict access to that.
Ash in your mainland water is going to make no diference whatsoever to it's safety or levels of polution, you should be more concerned with all the chemicals dumped daily into our inland water ways.

When in Rome.
Unfortuantly this isnt Rome, or India. This is England, and we don't dump our dead in the local Rivers.
Religion is the root cause of EVERY war EVER! If any immigrant is serious about wanting to become British citizens then they have to make sacrifices.
If these people continue to force their "traditions" upon Britain ,it only increases resentment towards them, and then they'll be complaing of victimisation when they were responsible in the first place!

Slightly Edited.

I get the white trash bit, but WTF is a WASP
Seriously, I've never heard anyone call me that before!

I am not really for this, but saying that there should be no non-English religious ceremonies in England is plain stupid.
Most of the second and third generation of "immigrants" were born in this country and as a result are British. We went to a Sikh wedding the other weekend and it certainly made us feel a bit inadequate. These people have a culture that being so totally different to ours, I find fascinating. They were very nice to is, showed us what to do and were altogether the friendliest people I have met in a very long time.
The reception was brilliant - boy, did they know how to party, most of them without any alcohol.
I obviously against all the hate towards white people which seems to emminate from the Islamics - do not think this is racist, I have experienced this first hand, AND in Bradford.

So, water tasting of curry won't be an improvement? It will be around here
And water has given people the squits for years.
Ash is one of *the* most hygenic things in the world. And they can always put filters on the water inlet pips

Bob,
Tell them they can use 'The Strid' at Bolton Abbey. They could chuck the whole dead body in and it'll turn it to a pile of ash by the time it's finished.
Damian.

How about the Humber instead? It's a similar colour (to ash before you say anything) so you wouldn't see any additions and they dredge the mudflats regularly
Depending on the numbers requiring the service, I bet the Aire would rise a few inches.
OTOH were there any graveyards in India before the Raj / Empire etc and I bet it was "us" that stopped the wives flinging themselves onto the funeral pyres.
I'll stand corrected on the above as it may be my ignorance / stereotypical views.
