Peak District/North Wales
#1
What are the worthwhile attractions up in the Peaks? Me and the wife will be camping south of Stoke for a few days before heading over to north Wales. We have a few plans but want to know what the must see things are.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Cheers all,
Karl

seriously
Anywhere close to Bakewell is a good place to camp as it is practically in the middle of the peak district Chatsworth is a must and only a couple of miles away Ilam,Eyam both worth a look and Dovedale which is v popular but very pretty and a nice walk
Ashbourne is quite nice and sort of on youre way out of the peak district towards wales
I also know North wales Very well Port Meirion is a must (got married there last year) as is Snowdon walk up it or take the train i have tried both but needed new legs the day after walking up.
Ihave been going there since knee heigh to a grass hopper
and My father has a cottage in Bort y Gest just outside Porthmadog
any more tips email me as these are perhaps the two parts of the uk i know the best
edit to say forgot youre approaching from stoke so its Ashbourne first then towards Bakewell
take the Hartington,Monyash route
ps Charlie whiskey could probably give you some nice routes he knows the roads better than me

plus if you're a climber like me there are some awesome crags at Stanage (Peaks) - a jut of rock about 3-4 miles long with climbs all the way along.
there's also some awesome climbing in the region of Plas y Brenin (N wales)
