Anyone know best place to buy a big American Style Fridge Freezer, and where is the cheapest to buy?

It must be pretty big and not one of these that looks American but is no bigger than a normal one.

Our current one is 7 cubic feet Fridge and 5 cubic feet freezer so must be bigger than this.

Thanks in anticipation

Steven

PS This is now a necessity as i said yes to the wife when she asked me whilst i was pissed at a friends party at the weekend.

My parents bought one some years ago from an ex USAF sell off don't know if they still have them. Dirty great thing, 240v and cheap.

They went to Molesworth near Huntingdon

Not sure if they do the US-style fridges, but what about trying Trade Appliances? We bought a Neff fully-integraded d/washer from them and they were very good (and about £600 cheaper than Comet)!

Cool

Costco and Makro both do them. Not sure of the brands but they're the double door style with ice maker etc on left hand door. Been tempted for a long time but don''t know where I'd put it !!
Of the top of my head I think they're 800+vat at makro, and 1000+vat at costco (although it might be the other way round !).

Good luck !

Yes i know. Fridge 1st on 0% finance i think, as i cant keep my beers in the one we have at themo due to all the kids food. My wife is a really good cook(thank the lord) so we also have a lot of fresh food, hence no room for beer.

Given the amount i am going to have to buy you ithought i had best get a new one. Just i should not have said so at a party as they are already asked if i have got onbe yet?? Only one day gone by!!

FMIC still on the cards though, so dont worry, just have to think of excuse when asked whats that you have got on your car now and why

That trade-appliances site have Maytag. Is your one a top mount fridge freezer - a 'royale'?

Tiggs, the Americans are actually helping prevent global warming. As you know, humans are carbon-based lifeforms, so the more huge fat Americans there are, the more of the carbon is safely locked up in their bulk, well away from the atmosphere.

So as long as the US fatties continue to scoff more burgers, greenhouse-gas emissions should reduce gradually.

Try www.searchappliance.co.uk. Very good prices, and doorstep delivery as well.

The GE stuff is great value and has the nicest handles IMHO. We paid ~£2.2k for a 21cuft fully clad one. Check Comet (online) for a price comparison. There's an American appliance place in North London (name escapes me - it's on the web somewhere) that stocks *everything* if you want to kick tyres.

Her in doors went for a 20.something cubic foot Philips Whirlpool in black in the end, as that had the best shelf positioning and the best colour

Women and shelf positioning. While we (household of 2 people and 2 cats) were shopping for a side by side American fridge/freezer, I was bombarded with objections of

Her: "It's not big enough"
Him thought: "FFS"
Him speech: "Why not honey?"
Her: "We wouldn't be able to keep a whole salmon in it"
Him thought: "FFS - 2 people and 2 cats don't keep whole salmon in fridges"
Him speech: "Darling, if we had a whole salmon, wouldn't it spend most of it's time being cooked or eaten, rather than refrigerated? Surely 21 cuft is large enough? Anyway, the wide, non side-by side (that would hold a whole salmon) will obstruct the kitchen door (FFS)".
Her: Mood.

This kitchen could have funded a new STi7 and a new Elise. Ho hum. Still no whole salmon.

Cool

We have a large Retro Hotpoint Fridge and it's excellent, loads of room for beer and food (21 litres). I had to rip out a few cupboards to get the thing in but it is pretty big. You can take a look at it here:
http://www.hotpoint.co.uk/cgi-bin/db2www/Hotpoint/product.d2w/report?prrfnbr=103

We have a local indpendant electrical shop who will match any price and delivers for free, ask around locally you might be pleasently surprised as to what deals are on offer.
Alternatively try these guys, they have a good reputation :

there's a guy on the Scotland forum called D Noble - he deals in fish and stuff, think he'd be able to sort you out with a whole salmon. Failing that, I'm going to Skye on Wednesday - do you want me to post one up on Scoobynet for you?

Paid for it already, arriving on Sunday

We are knocking the kitchen extension down and rebuilding so space is not an issue.

The old one is going in the garage for GUINNESS, BEER, LAGER and maybe a bottle or two of white wine/rose for my dearly beloved.
