Speed camera stolen!

Police have reported that their new £25,000 Truvelo speed camera has been totally removed by thieves from the A605 in Northamptonshire one night last week.
They are appealing for witnesses.
While i immediately thought "horay", i then read that this road is one of the worst 'red routes' in the county. Only last week someone was killed in a RTA near where the camera was taken from. Unsure of my feelings about this now!

to the cops!
In between Cannes and Mandelieu (French Riviera), they installed £100,000 worth of radar detector (3 big grey ones). About 2 months later, they were gone. In fact, an unidentified biker had thrown a hand grenade at them!

Nat21,
I wouldn't feel too bad about it if I were you. It's a speed camera, not a bad driving camera.
It'll never catch the guy who's got one hand on the wheel and one holding a phone or a cigarette. It won't get the van with the bald tyres, tailgating in the rain. It won't spot someone reading a map rather than reading the road, and nor will it catch someone overtaking when there's not enough visibility. It's a poor judge of driver safety.
I remember seeing a Govenment report that the ABD had dug out that broke down all road accidents by root cause. Pure speed accounted for just 7.3%.
Hands up who thinks that £25,000 would have been better spent paying for people to take advanced driver training, or even an extra copper for a few months?
Now, where's my spray can?
A.

Andy,
the 7% lie is at http://www.abd.org.uk/one_third.htm
Also, a perfect example of the points that you made, and the pathetic response/strategy by certain persons in (so called) charge can be found at http://www.abd.org.uk/pr/334.htm.

Speaking of poor driving I kid you not because I reported this one immediately to the police, a man in VW Golf with 6x4ft ply board on the roof of his car, held on by string and his right hand, talking on his mobile phone wedged between his left shoulder and ear, changing gear with his left hand steering with his knees, doing 60mph on the A1 northbound approaching the M25....
