Black rags on cars towing eyes
#1
With all the worry of car jacking in West Yorkshire recently I have been a lot more alert to drivers around me and have noticed a lot of cars driving around with black rags tied to their towing eyes or around their rear view mirrors. Everyone of them was being driven by young asians lads so is it a gang thing or something more innocent. It may be nothing but I'm just being nosey.

I live in Birmingham, there is a lot of asians here, they all have a bit of rag tied to their towing eye, I doubt its a gang, just your paranoia
There is probably a Nissan forum somewhere where someone is saying I keep seeing a lot of young white drivers with their foglights on and illuminating water jets am I paranoid or is this a white car gang

Glowing washer jets are just stupid, just wondering if anyone actually knew what they were for? Might get my windows tinted out and put a rag on the back of the scoob and see what happens
I'm not paranoid (I drive a van during the week, they can have it if they want, it's knackered) I'm just bloody nosey

Well I am wondering seriously about pimp tints.. anyone wanting my car wouldn't know if I was alone of if there were 5 bouncers in the car?!
Also has other advantages!!! wouldn't have to wait until dark to stop in that layby!
I like the idea of the black rag, although if you are then seen to be not part of the gang you would automatically become a target no?

Best thing about pimp tints is your window doesnt go through when smashed, good against would be theives bad in car accidents with jammed doors leaking fuel and engine fires

Well if you think about it the CofE has that little fish on the back of thier cars so maybe the black rag is the same thing?

I'll put you all straight! Orange cloth or thingymajib hanging from rear view miror, it's just a sikh thing, my neighbour has one in his alfa gtv. A sort of CD with green writing on it is a Muslim or Pakistani symbol of some sort, probably transcript from the Koran (sorry if I've spelt it wrong, wasn't on purpose, honestly)....

I don't think the fish is limited to the Church of England... I've seen them in different countries.
I want the one I saw in the States, the fish had legs and Darwin written inside!

The fish badge is useful. It tells you do not go near this car, it will be driven by a Guardian reading bearded muesli muncher normally driving at 42 mph everywhere, including in 30 limits Normally seen on Nissan Micras, Rover 200's and Toyotas of indeterminable model, and particularly prevalent on Sunday mornings.....

I think it's a good luck thing, when theys are first put on they are all different colours. Something to do with new drivers or new cars, I think.

well zero7 was the closest. It is a religious thing (black cloth), and also a good luck thing. It signifies that the person is a muslim, and of the Shiite following. (the other following is Sunni). Not a gang thing, and not sikh (they use orange cloths). no threat...same a sticking a fish sticker on ya car...just the diy version. oh and the cd is a bit of recycling with a prayer printed on (extact from the koran) also for luck.

lol @ Dave T-S - I have a fish on me Corsa, but not on the Scoob - the paints bad enough as it is!
As for our church car park - BMW Z3 (the reasonably quick one), My Scooby, Very modded Vectra etcetc! Makes me giggle.
Oh - and the fish orginated from the time when it was very dangerous for Christians - people would draw them in the sand to see if the person was a friend. It's called Icthus (sp?!) and is purely a Christian symbol, not nes. a Born Again Christian... You learn something every day eh?

Jen,
and when one person had drawn the fish in the sand in outline - if the other was a friend they would draw in the eye. If they got their sword out then you knew it was one of Herod's Republican Guards!

If you got stabbed if they were one of Herod's Republican Guards then you may as well asked whether they were Christrian or not?
I understand that perhaps it was not known about the fish symbol by the guards straight away but then your statement doesn't seem to take that into account either?

The black rag is in fact made from the same material as a hair extension but it is definately black.
Often on cars that are nice, and it is to stop other people envying you, which in Asian culture is bad.
It is an asian superstitous (sp) thing, and kind of blesses you.
Apparatly you can buy them from shops with large asian populations, like Southall.
You learn somthing new every day.
