Talking

I am on holiday this week and noticed that me phone rings about every 2 hours. When answered, the other end hangs up after about 1 second. Spoke to BT and they said it's an automated dialler that calls 100's of numbers, but the company only has a handful of people to annoy you - therefore the computer hangs up all the "missed calls" - anyways... to get removed off all of these lists you can call "the telephone Preference Service" on 0800 398893 and leave your name, number and address - they will remove you from "all" the lists that the cold calling scumbag, verminous companies use..

{Edited to remove the P word AGAIN}

aah, I miss my days on the old predictive dialler. Thousands of poor call centre staff ae chained to these evil devices like hampsters in wheels. They call a bunch of numbers, first sucker to answer gets the cold call. Thats why I never pick up at home until the 3rd ring, some fast-draw McGraw will always get it first.

Barclaycard is one of the worst offenders.

I evnetually spoke to a person recently

Them: "Hello, I'm from B'Card can we talk to you about financial products"
Me: "You can talk to me about my Credit Card, otherwise no"
Them: "We have this new offer...."
Me: "Is this about my Credit card"
Them: "...it could save you pounds on your mortgage..."
Me: "1. I dont pay my Mortgage with my Credit Card. 2. I'm 1 month into a 3 year fixed deal - you're not going to pay my redemption penalites are you ?"
Them: ".....you just need to tansfer your mortgage..."
Me: Puts phone down.

Arrrghhhhhh

Smile

Or sign up via the web - Telephone Preference Service

I signed up about 9 months ago and had next to no calls whatsoever. If you do, just mention the TPS and they soon hang up

Thumbs up

TPS works a treat. Make sure you register your mobile too, along with any fax numbers you might have. I've not received any cold calls on any phone for over 2 years.

At least you don't have the same problem I had.
About 2 years ago some tw*t published my residential phone number in Yellow Pages as the number for a very busy scrapyard. I think it was a genuine mistake, but you wouldn't believe the number of calls I had. Eventually I complained to YP and they agreed to pay me a 'fee' for puting up with the problem (and they took it out of the following years Yellow Pages).
If anyone wants a stove from a Chinese Restaurant in Guildford I may have access to one ;-)

Just interupt them immediately and ask if they are interested in Amway - pyramid selling, the way of the future etc etc. Guaranteed to get rid of them faster than Gypsy Lee with a basket of pegs...

My g/f once tried to sell her sunglasses to a tout in Eygpt similarly to this - their reaction is actually worth the hassle for the amusement factor....
