Health and Safety officials have issued renewed warnings about the dangers of mobile phones in workshops.
One mechanic was working on the fuel tank of a car on a ramp when the mobile in his trouser pocket rang. This triggered a flashover and he was momentarily surrounded by flames. He recieved hospital treatment for superficial burns to his face and hands.
Shell has also reported three recent incidents where mobile phones were left switched on by motorists during fuelling. One phone was on the boot lid when it rang, resulting in fire destruction to both car and pump.
In another case, a motorist was burned on the thigh and groin when the phone in his pocket rang during fuelling.
Ouch!
