hang around the bookies and watch for people placing 'large' bets just near the 'off' and copy them - works for me !!
ps: I will not be held responsible for any losses you incur -
you will have a great day out

I somehow manage to do quite well at "the races".. although I'm usually luckier with greyhounds.
Study the form, find out when it ran a similar distance recently, and what time it put in (adjusting for how soft the going was).
Ignore what everyone else thinks is going to win, don't get swayed by which is favourite.
Tot up how the others have fared, and pick your winner. Beware of a horse that puts in good times but doesn't like to win.
I don't bet on maiden races, too much of a lottery.

Go to:
http://www.sportinglife.com/racing/racecards/abcguide/abc_index.html
and you can search the form for all the horses running in a given meeting. It's a complete searchable form-book

Good tips so far! but Father J, is that the horse or the jockey?
Looks like I will need to spend some time working out this form guide stuff.
Once I pick my champ - do I back to win or back each way? Might be gutted if they kept coming second all the time?
People seem to wander around with the Racing Post tucked under their arm - is this worth getting or just a fashion accessory?
