Question

Never done it before myself but there must be some sort of way that a 2 - 4 page glossy is designed? F knows but content is not a problem, its the way pics and words are intermingled to make something that is noticeable/memorable & gets the message accross that does my suede in

Any advice or pointers a help.

Is it for a 100 or 5000? Of course you can go to a designer with your cut and paste ideas and they will produce final artwork ready for printing but this will be expensive.
Another route would be to contact Coltec Parker on tel: 01535 608405 (Keighley, West Yorks) who are specialists in colour printing. As a first step ask for their brochure/colour printing guide which will give you an accurate idea of print costs and I am sure they will work from your cut and paste concept along with photos or whatever you provide. I have found them excellent value over several years. No connection etc and I am sure there are others on the board who will offer alternative suggestions. DL

If it's for a commercial project, I would get a designer in. It's so easy to get things very wrong

A bit like commercial photography -- you think "how difficult can it be to take a picture of a bolt?", but it is

I agree with Carl.
If it is for work get it done by a pro. I've mocked up a few brochures for demo purposes (very easy to do in Word)but then end product has always been done by a proper designer.

When choosing a designer make sure that they can design for print and get some examples. There a a lot of designers who do great designs and make the thing look great but when it come to getting it printed their design can push up the printing cost quiet dramatically. E.g using non-standard paper sizes, use of colours (spot colour is cheaper than full colour), triming the paper etc.

A good designer is not cheap but this is one industry that you really do get what you pay for.

Mark
