New Speed Cameras Stockport A6
#1
Just a warning that there are two new Gatsos outside Stockport Grammar School on the A6 for any one in the area. The Gatso units are painted dull yellow but dont seem to stand out very well, I dont think Cheshire are in the 'keep cash' scheme so why they have bothered to paint them yellow I do not know. At the moment they are facing oncoming traffic, no lines painted on the road and are not active.

Cheers for that.. local to me that one..
Do you know the other one on the A6? In Heaton Chapel? I had a Max Power muppet driving about 6 inches behind me in his souped up Nova approaching that.. about 100 yards before I pulled in slightly and let him past... he must have been doing about 70 when it went *flash* lol muppet!
Do I feel guilty? Do I ****!

Had a good look at these this morning and noticed that there is a small grey pole by each one about 1m high, the thing is these cameras are forward facing and there are no lines on the road or marks where induction loops may have been sunk. They may have not got round to painting the lines yet and the cameras may be swiveled round when they are operational but after reading about 'hidey holes' in previous post I wonder if we have something new here. I will ask Steve Warren and post back later.

Just an update. The gatsos heads have been spun round now but are still not activated.
Another one has been erected outside the Shell garage 300 meters before these two new ones. It is on the side of the road going towards Stockport.

I had to remind my 'chauffeur' of these coming back from Longsight early on Sunday morning (He could have lost his license if they had all been working)
I pressume the unpainted ones on the way up to Disley are actually working too?

Si, there is a garage on the left (unsure if its audi, fairly new?) as the road sweeps right to the lights. The thing is on the left with a sign in white. flashed 50 at me last night!

Yeah thats the one. I drove past it the other day and it flashed me at 38. It floats around Stockport quite a lot. Seems to flash at quite a distance away too. A lot farther away than a gatso would get you at.. I've seen it on Reddish Road and Longford Road as well as a few other places I can't remember. I think they move it every couple of weeks although thats the first time I've seen it with flashing lights on top.

Sounds like a county council using cameras where they should be used, in an area where no driver should be speeding.
Why paint them yellow so they can be seen? so that drivers (including the parents of pupils) will slow down and pass the school at an appropriate speed perhaps.

Cheers for this info, don't drive a scooby, got a fiat coupe turboLE but great info as I haven't seen these go up. Where do you Stockport guys go for a good drive-not originally from around here you see!

I believe some cameras are being trialled that dont use lines on the road, to prevent people seeing those and 'slamming on'. Instead they have a graticule on the lense that they can confirm your speed with.

nigelward,
I agree with you on the reasons for them being painted yellow, I queried why they bothered as I have not seen any others in the area painted yellow. I also think speed cameras in this location are not the best idea as during the day it is very rare to get above 30mph due to all the traffic on the A6. I also see no reason for them to erect another Gatso 300 yards up the road which is not in any sort of 'black spot'.
