sheffield is very upcoming at the moment, prices arent stupid yet but there are loads of new projects/developments going on in the next couple of years. People forget it is the countries third biggest city. It is being redeveloped extensively, a very good opportunity.

Think more or less anywhere down South (mainly South East) will do OK, as there seem to be many more people wanting houses than there are existing houses.
Eg Basingstoke, Southampton, Winchester...
There are, however, never any guarantees!!!
Good luck - houses are very stressfull

Big demand in North Cardiff. Houses sell pretty much straight away, though a little pricey. Multi billion pound development of Cardiff Bay etc. Loads of new waterfront apartments being built. Really nice.
And of course home to the Network Q.
Chip.

Chippenham, not as grotty as Swindon (sorry!) and not as expensive as Bath. Mainline railway and 3 miles to J17 of the M4. Schools are reasonable (1 brand new). Might have problems in the future when the kids of the huge number of people who have moved here grow up and can't find work locally. Plenty of choice in your price range. You'll be struggling for somewhere decent in Bath for that money. If you're buying there I can tell you the areas to avoid!
Others:
Malmesbury, bit more expensive but nicer
Corsham, smaller but a bit cheaper than Chippenham, building mainline railway in the near future which should boost prices a bit.
For what it's worth the nightlife in this part of the world is bloody awful.

Milton Keynes and Whitby !! - Whitby you ask why ? - 'cos it's surrounded by national park and all the available land that you are allowed to build on has been used. Also the old farts with money like to retire their (as I will do eventually). Only place I know of where they give a price and say "offers over".
I bought properties in both locations..

You might be able to buy a house in Cambridge. House prices always seem to remain fairly high here. If you are doing a buy-to-let Cambridge is a very safe bet.
