Help to buy and inheritance question
Strange one for this forum but will give it a go.
My wife and I used the help to buy scheme to buy our 1st house 4 years ago. At the time and currently it is our only property, in the not so distant future we will be inheriting her fathers house and we are not sure if this is breaking the terms of the help to buy scheme.
We can't help inheritance its a normal way of life.
the terms of the help to buy state you cannot own another home when buying a house on the help to buy scheme. It says nothing about inheritance in the future.
Any ideas?
The help to buy we used was the 20% loan from the government.
I'm pretty sure there will be enough money in his estate to pay off our the 20% of the loan but ideally we wanted that for other things.
we would like to rent his house out however it needs alot of modernisation and tidying up.
Regards

Don't work in property any more but if I remember correctly its at the time of purchase. You have now completed on purchase. So you haven't broken the terms of the agreement.
*I am not a solicitor* and this is my opinion

Unless there is a change of circumstances clause in the help to buy contract, then there can be no breach.
Like others, its your circumstances at the time of purchase.
Example, your relatives are not obligated to give you any inheritance, money, property, shares etc.
You cant predict the future
