Depends on if you did anything wrong!
Last MAMIL I shouted obscenities at I politely followed for 1/4 mile due to traffic and then held behind as I was going to turn left at the approaching junction.
And right at this junction I'm holding back to turn into, for no reason he decides to stop for a breather, no signalling, no look behind, front front wheel in the way (narrow junction). Words had to be exchanged in order to get him to roll back and get the front wheel clear of the junction entrance. There was even a bus stop he could have pulled into instead.
Oh and the peloton wannabes hammering it on downhill stretches of single track lanes. Wait 'til they meet my mate John the farmer in his Manitou with spike forks and hay bales...he won't know he's impaled them all until he gets back home
Ergo; There is nothing you can do....if you're a c**t, you're a c**t regardless of the number of wheels on your mode of transport. But I'll give special mention to 8x4 tipper drivers, they really are special sort of c**t above and beyond the rest. Ride down their inside at your peril.

If you slow down one vehicle, create a rolling road block, they overtake a lot more carefully copying the vehicle in fronts manoeuvre.
There are still some and thankfully few total pyscho's which will try intimidate you. You only enhance aggression by flicking the finger or anything else. Just ride to protect yourself.

I got more than stitches. A broken femur, broken pelvis, dislocated shoulder and 6 broken ribs.
Thankfully as I had a camera on the bike, the driver of the van was found, prosecuted and jailed for 9 months. I also received a large payout from his insurance company, which was very nice one I'd recovered from my injuries.
***** like you will be caught.

Self preservation. I can cover myself with gopros but that's not going to stop me from being in ICU because I get squashed by an 8x4 tipper on the A448.
Of course I could throw caution to wind, ride head down with my earpods in then live a shorter life whilst listening to radio 4 podcasts and not know what killed me until St.Peter tells me before sending me to hell.

Had a run in with a self righteous little pr*ck on a bike today. On the Downs in Bristol, a 20mph zone, full of walkers and cyclists. On a hill, 2 bikes in front of me, abreast. I slow, stay well behind them, and wait til it's safe to pass. I'm doing about 5mph. Another cyclist in go-fast gear comes steaming up the inside (there's no room) about 6 inches from the car. I blow my horn, he clearly hasn't seen why I'm going so slowly. He yells, bends back the nearside mirror, and shouts in my wife's face through the open passenger window. Says he was 'filtering'. I stop to reset the mirror, he starts on at me, bends the front and rear wipers, and punches me in the chest twice, then off he goes. I would add that he was a fit 30 something, I'm a slightly built 68 year old. I've got his photo, not sure whether to inform plod. I'm always very careful around bikes, I've been riding myself for nearly 60 years, but this has really put me off cyclists. Maybe one day karma will come calling, and he'll try and pick a fight with someone in a Q7 with blacked out windows....

My friend had a cyclist coming toward him on a quiet road, cyclist was doing something on his phone not looking, my friend stopped awaiting the impending collision, after he had riden into my friends car and fallen off he starts swearing and shouting at him and goes for the drivers window, my friend drives over his bike and goes home.
God that made me laugh.

My last close call put me off cycling - nothing serious 100km+ a week - wing mirror to the elbow at 30kph’ish, speeding car, probably thought I was a branch and cleared off. I’m lucky to have a great cycle path network outside my door, but it’s not the same any more.
