Question Canon Printer problem. Help required please.

I was wondering if there are any printer experts on here ?
I had the 1700 code (Ink pads almost full) come up on our Canon MG6650 printer. I removed, cleaned and refitted the pads but cannot find a way to reset the ink pad counter. Tried this .. https://smallbusiness.chron.com/clea...ber-57609.html but it didn't work for me. How can I reset the counter ?
Thanks
Brian.

That's what I found

Waste ink absorber error 1700
Eight flashes indicates that this absorber is nearly full. Press the <Stop/Reset> button to clear the error so you can continue printing. Before the waste ink absorber becomes completely full, the printer will need to be serviced.9 Jun 2015

Yes, saw that. Pressing the power button makes no difference and it doesn't yet flash eight times. Cheaper to buy a new printer than send it to Canon for service, they only have one outlet in the UK !
Thanks anyway.
Cheers
Brian.
