Did anyone watch that? The new policies on Speed Camera operation is only applicable to certain constabularies. If you get caught by a speed camera that doesnt adhere to the legislation you still get done anyway - you gotta love the laws in this country aint ya.

Add to that the cameras they were showing - OMG hidden behind signs, within bushes, behind roadworks, telegraph poles etc.

Main points were (must adhere to by June 30):
1. Easily visible colours.
2. Clear marking/warning 1000m before
3. Not hidden in anyway
4. No warning signs where there are no cameras

Supposedly any that dont meet the full criteria by June 30th will be covered in hoods - likelyhood of that happening is about the same as someone giving me a P1 for free....

Simon.

Surely you don't condone vandalism? Can you imagine if we all kept a can of fuel and an old tyre with rags stuffed in, in the boots of our cars. Just think of the temptation to stop after being flashed and giving the camera a new 'look'.....

i still don't really understand how putting speed cameras in accident hot spots is gonna reduce accidents. i mean surely only the people who know about the camera are gonna slow down, and the people who know about the camera must know its a dangerous bit of road so will be going slower anyway??

The people who don't know about the camera will just continue at the same speed as they were going, will get caught, but won't have slowed down so are just as likely to cause an accident as they would have been if the camera wasn't there.

pretty pointless eh??

I sorta get your logic Adam, but the point is that once youve been caught your more likely to remember next time instead of blazing through at full speed. I dont condone how the police implement and use the cameras but agree that they are needed to try and stop the nutter element who speed everywhere.
