Default Slowly does it.....

My daughter bought me a slow cooker for Christmas which is great. Used one before but decades ago and before recipes on Google

Just wondered if you had any favourites? My criteria is reasonably easy to cook, less that say 7 ingredients. Lamb base is fine. Plenty on Google but so many recipes assume one has an endless supply of fresh and ground herbs and I don't.

Had breast of chicken with Italian dressing on pasta last night which was a good start,

So suggestions please.

Thanks, David

The two greedy Italians have a great one -Brasato di Manzo in vin rosso

As you probably guessed, 1kg of topside of beef, bottle red wine and load of chunky veg thrown with it .Yum (and garlic, bay leaves, rosemary, peppercorns

Just falls apart

Your worlds your oyster to be honest.

Fresh veg on bottom layer, add many meat on top. Bit of water with or without mixing with herbs and spices (plenty of slow cooker packets in supermarkets) and leave on all day. Can't go wrong.

I did minted Lamb parcels from the local farm at the weekend. Fresh chopped carrots and Parsnips, some onion and mushrooms in bottom. Bit of water. Did some roast potatoes when I got back, and it tasted amazing.

Just be careful with chicken, as they tend to shrink a lot.

Best to leave on all day when out for the day. I made the mistake of leaving on all day while inside (work from home) and it's torture. The smell !!!

We got bought one a couple of years ago, brilliant bit of kit!

I would say beef stew and dumplings, and also a whole roast chicken. You can do pretty much anything in it though.

A piece of Briskett, couple of oxo cubes, tin of bitter and fresh bayleaves/thyme/rosemary.

You might have to spoon of a couple of tablespoons of fat every couple of hours but that depends on the quality of the meat.

The meat falls apart and the gravy is to die for. Serve with creamy mash....

Curries are fab done in a slow cooker. Use pretty much any recipe as a base and substitute "cook on hob for x hours" with, "cook in slow cooker all day".

Also, ox tail stew. If you've never eaten cow tail you're missing out. It's possibly the most intense beef hit available.

Also, lamb shank.

I’ll never understand why folk put bayleaves in things. They taste of literally nothing and you don’t eat them?

I do a chilli concarnee in mine super easy and makes a rich thick chilli

1 pack of mince
2 red onions
2 green chillis ( if you want it to have a kick )
2 peppers
3 cloves chopped garlic
Tin of chopped tomatoes
Tin of mixed beans or just kidney beans
Jar of chilli mix sauce
A packet of old El Paso chilli mix

Fry off the mince for 10min adding the garlic and chilli mix powder to the meat once brown put it all in the slow cooker

Chop and fry off all ya veg then add the tin of tomatoes and jar of sauce

Throw it all in and leave it cooking low for as long as 4-5 hours stirring every few hours and I take the lid off and drain all the condensation from the lid so it reduces down and becomes thick and rich

Usually makes enough to get a few dinners for work aswell

Serve with rice or jacket potato or what ever you like

Job done

Thanks fellas, some great suggestion there. Brought back memories of meals my late wife used to cook in a pressure cooker. Had completely forgotten Oxtail which was a joy and I will certainly be rekindling my taste buds with that.

Have beef curry in cooker at the moment.

Thanks once again. David

I don’t need a slow cooker as my missus can take up to two hours to cook a pasta dish and that’s slow enough for me

Whole roast chicken: Smear a good **** of butter under the skin on the breast, cover with strips of streaky bacon. Stand it on an upturned saucer and leave it in all day

If you want crispy skin on the breast, take the bacon of an hour before you take it out.
