My m8 looked at a car but refused to buy it as the guy only had the green slip and it wasn't in his name, the guy said just to tippex out the name and address and put your own in, it's too late now (he's bought another car) but would the dvla have had a problem with that?

Surely that would arouse suspicion?

Hpi check would of flagged up if the car was stolen.
The owner of the logbook/green slip doesn't mean you own the car,you can register a car in your name without a green slip.
