New TV Set, Any Sugestions
#1
After less than 3 years service, the tube in our JVC Tv has gone. As they want nearly £300 to repair it I think it might be time to invest in a new widescreen set. I can't be arsed to do the homework so does anyone have any recomendations.I want to spend upto £600. JVC will not be considered.
Many Thanks

The cheaper ones are as good as the dear ones. I have a Panasonic 28" PL10, and though the picture is good, it does have some annoyances. Speakers buzz when at low volume, screen has a black moir effect when watching football, and picture is wobbly in 4:3 etc etc. For £900 I expected more. As i said, picture is phenominal though

Rent one.

Contract is for 17 months, then if you don't like it, or technology has changed, heave it and rent a different one.

Has to be 100hz refresh, at least three scarts, Sony make the best tubes in the game, imo. However, I have a Panasonic Tau set because the construction of my house caused magnetic interference on the Sony set I bought (weird).

Thanks for the ideas guys. I must admit I hadn't thought of renting but I must say there seems a lot to be said for it. Definately needs a little investigation.

Sony, Sony, Sony
I personally don't think that you can get a crisper picture. I've got a 29" Sony and bought it in Feb this year and have had no problems with it at all.
My brother-in-law used to work for Currys and he said that he never had to pick up a Sony TV for not working, however brands like JVC, Panasonic, Bush, and Alba etc. he was back every few months replacing them with new models because they just stopped working.

also have a sony wega, 3 years of trouble free use... a bit dated look now but still excellent, my dad and brother have the 100hz, makes a lot clearer picture, although I have to say DVD's on theirs look a little too sharp and lose the cinema feel.

I have a Toshiba 32" 50Hz and it also kicked all the competition into touch for picture quality (inluding Sony 100Hz for similar price). It is simply awesome.
Only has nicam stereo speakers as i use an AV amp.

Just ordered a Philips 28pw6515 from John Lewis at Bluewater. 599 quid, including 5 year on site warranty. It got a good review at \http://www.home-entertainment.co.uk. Nice looking too

Sony, all the way. I have a mate who works for a dealer, of various makes. In his opinion, Sony are the most reliable with a picture quality up with the best.

I have a Samsung Plano Widescreen, flat screen jobby. Very pleased with the quality. Very similar to Sony Wega but cheaper.
28" version retails for around £500.

Small Sony 24" Wega. Handier sized, the 28" and 32" are huge and will not fit into my tiny hovel. Very, very pleased with it.
And because its silver, it matches nicely with our Ferguson Videostar video recorder, circa 1979.
