Where were you in 1966- WC Final ?
I had watched all the lead up games to the final against Germany.
The day of the final I was off to France with 2 mates , so it was planned to get the cross channel ferry early in the morning and get to Calais to watch the game.
It didn't work out as planned and was on the ferry during the game , listening to a radio broadcast of the game with a group of Germans.
It still hurts that I didn't see the game live.

I had gone to France/Spain in a beaten up camper van with a bunch of mates We actually watched the game in a bar in Spain with a mix of Brits, Germans, French and Spanish. Lots of beer and a great friendly atmosphere.
One of my pals was an ardent Southampton fan and he insisted on covering the camper with Union Jacks and had the words "BANKS FOR GOD" written in large letters on the back doors in toothpaste
Who won?

I was 11 years old & remember watching the game at home. The most significant memory was at half time.I was standing by the front door where the local London bus route ran by.The driver saw me & pulled up,lent out of his cab & asked for the score! I felt for him as there was absolutely nobody on his bus!!! Obvoiusly

Apparently I was at a wedding when the match was playing. I don't remember it, I was only 4 at the time. Seems there were 'one or two' of the congregation kept popping out of the church to get radio updates..

For some strange reason, the media/TV go mental on it leading up to and during the Euros, too!
It's so embarrassing that 'we' cling on to it, in that desperate way we do. The Germans, what with their 4, must think ze stupid Englanders are bloody weird.
Which we are lol
