Driving abroad-DVLA code
Has anyone ever actually been asked for this?
I've been to Majorca twice since it came in and they've only asked to see my photo card licence. Everyone I've spoken to says they've never been asked for it either.
Going to Italy next month and just wondering if we'll be asked for them there.
TIA

I had to send a link to one on my insurers to check my license for motorcycle entitlement and speeding points, to which I had none

I've never heard of another European country issuing a paper counterpart license in addition to the photo license! I've hired in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Holland and Poland and have never been asked for a paper counterpart. Yet hire in the UK and if you don't have it, they charge you extra for a check!
If you have another countries license, that also doesn't include the points, the UK hire companies will happily hire the car with no need for checks!
Typical UK, they do away with the paper part, but still manage to come up with a check code! No doubt you will need this when hiring cars in the UK, but nobody else in the world will have a clue what it is or even care about it! Although I hired in the UK in May this year and they still took my paper license and didn't need the code!
Also worth noting, there is no unified EU points system, so points you have in the UK are irrelevant to another EU state and you can also get points (or even banned) in another EU state and they don't count in the UK.

Just to update, I took the codes plus the print outs of our licence's and we were never even asked for them. I asked if they wanted them and the response was a resounding no! Seems as long as you can produce your licence they don't care!
