Hello guys. It's a long story but me and my family are considering the possibility of moving out of the hills in rural Northumberland and down to north Lincolnshire. Reason being is that I have a little daughter from a previous relationship who lives in Norfolk and travelling so far on a regular basis is far from ideal. We can't afford a suitable house in Norfolk so we're looking at north Lincolnshire as the property is affordable and it's not too far from our relatives in Manchester. We have visited the area around Louth and Saltfleet and it seems to tick a lot of boxes.

I'm obviously aware that Lincolnshire isn't Northumberland and that some areas in the south (eg around Boston) have experienced high levels of migration, which has put pressure on schools and some other services. However, trying to get a feel of what it's like overall as a place to live and bring up kids. Also in terms of crime, safety and good/not so good areas. Any feedback would be appreciated!

I'm moving from sunny Eastbourne to North lincolnshire next week, It's gonna be colder for me

 

Where exactly are you looking at moving too? I'm based inbetween Hull and Scunthorpe, It's a nice enough place, it's abit quiet round my areas but out lincoln end theres much more to do and see.

 

We're looking towards the coast in the north of the county - ie NE Lincolnshire. We've looked at Louth, Alford, Horncastle, Mablethorpe, and going north up towards Cleethorpes

 

i live about 30 miles from boston, yeah its massive in terms of eastern europe but its not that bad, i dont go often i have friends that live in the surrounding villages so they are sheltered from it,

Holbeach is ok , some very very rural parts around there just depends what you want!

Im about 30 miles from norfolk border and the a47 is on my doorstep

 

Scunny born and bred here, it has some depressing areas (like the sceffy estate featured on SKINT), but it has some good areas too. Property is cheap compared to many areas around here and hopefully with the swapping back to British Steel from Tata yesterday, may invite some more investment.

The south or posh north it ain't, but every area has its ****holes in fairness.

If you want a quieter life, try the smaller towns/villages. Around here that's Brigg, Broughton, Winterton, Epworth, Kirton Lindsey, Hibaldstow etc.

 

Thanks Chocolate and Taylor. All useful info. We are happy to live somewhere quiet, so long as it's safe and peaceful. We don't need posh - we probably wouldn't qualify as posh enough ourselves anyway

 

We looked at Louth a few years back and very nearly moved there. Lovely market town with great shops, Mablethorpe beach not far away and, even better, Cadwell Park just up the road

Ended up moving near the inlaws for various reasons, but will seriously reconsider moving up there in years to come.

 

Yes Tim - a big plus factor

 

There are lots of nice villages/ small towns to choose from. Pick one near-ish to a city, good train links and off a main trunk road.

You can cycle, walk in fields and quiet country lanes. still peaceful enough to remind you of being a kid

 

I'm moving near Brigg, so between Scunthorpe and Lincoln, very quiet area but still close enough for the beech at Cleathorpes, going to miss only being 10 mins away from the sea. Also check for decent internet, Where I'm moving to is like going back to 1985
Have to say North Lincolnshire seems really nice, houses are cheap to

Yeah - we've seen some nice houses in and around Brigg. Internet will matter as I work a lot from home. Although I'm up in the hills, I have fibre-optic high speed broadband. Would be tricky to move somewhere where it's dead slow
