New EU regulation as of 1st May 2016
This will not, may not, should not effect most of you but just FYI.
Yes I know it is in the guardian so according to you lot complete bollox and a pack of lies but sup2u if you believe it or not. I just thought I would pass on the information.

According to this discussion on TripAdvisor and this Swiss government website, it's always been the case that cars hired outside of the EU could only be driven into the EU for a maximum of 8 days, otherwise they'd be subject to import duties, taxes etc (or hefty fines for not paying the same). The change in regulation that came into force on 1st May in fact applies to company cars, but it seems a lot of hire car counters in Switzerland (along with some Guardian journalists ) have got the wrong end of the stick, and are now refusing the hire of any vehicles at all to persons who plan to travel across the border even just for a day.
