Dont take my word for it but I think you would just get a producer and have to take your car to an MOT station to confirm that the "fault" has been rectified.
But saying that its more likley to be the Electric chair or some other simlar sentence for such a great public atrocity as this

Just been 'done' for having aprivate plate with digits that were not correctly spaced and had been 'tampered' with. lol
Was given a 7 day producer, and 14 day visit to MOT station to confirm rectification. Old bill said that he would look out for me and if I put the plates back on afterwards he would give me on the spot fine, and the next time go to court for big fine and confiscation.
Nice people.
Whoops - tha t reminds me, that was ten days ago and I haven't produced

For what its worth my other half IS a pig!!! (a nice one)
having asked him ... its £30 max EVERYTIME..... you could end up in court if he was having a bad day but generally he says he just tells them off and gives them either a 14 day MOT checkin! or a 7 day wonder OR BOTH!!!!!!
either way ... you CANT get points for it!

Actually its like the tyre question, 3 points per bald one, if it makes the car unroadworthy (ie would fail an mot) then its endorsable, so, you can get points for not having the correct size/spaced letters on your numberplate.

I got stopped for having a small front plate and was give a £30 non enorsable fine. However, the nice officer said he would be reporting it to the DVLA and if I was caught again, then they would put my car on a Q reg plate. Needless to say, changed it immediately and never putting the small one on while on the road.
