Default Food and houses...the great British obsessions

And we wonder why we are overweight and over-indulged in credit, as a nation?

If I never see another TV programme about food, or someone selling, buying, Getting someone else to sell or buy, or doing up or DIY-ing a house, here OR abroad, I'd be a happy bunny.

If turning off the TV would make you happy, I'd go for it.

The amount of food related programs is getting beyond a joke now.

I don't mind the food programmes so much (some of them are dire though), but I'm in agreement on the housing programmes. As someone who doesn't own or rent a house and has no intention of ever getting a mortgage, I find them mind-numbingly boring. I'd rather listen to RS_Matt talk about WRX's for an hour lol.

Whilst we're on the subject of TV, I'd like to add that I'm finding all these new comedy 'panel' shows extremely unfunny. The same crusty old faces chatting complete bollocks for half an hour.

If you don't own or rent a house, do you live in your Subaru?

So are you in the barracks for life or are you moving into your car? Surely a house is on the horizon somewhere?

I agree on the OTT quantity of these house and food programmes. 'Come dine with me' seems to be almost every yongster's dream to be in! To be honest, I know some older people who'd love to be in it. 'Who wants to be a millionaire' went, so now there's this food programme to shine through! It makes me think that it's not just about money but about being in the media. I suppose Facebook and YouTube media also help the peeps who love to become known to all n' sundry. They can feel like a screen star there, by putting their every day stuff out in public. Not the same hence their longing persists for the small screen appearance.

Holiday programmes were a biggy in the 90's, weren't they? They used to dominate the TV, then.

I often leave my Sky Arts on when I'm doing some work with my TV on. The amount of talent you see and hear on it is unbelievable! Shows how many awfully gifted people are there in the world; other than our usual Adele and that Sheerer bloke. Even more talented than them! Sky Arts is badly managed, though. Some random gaps and incoherently inserted clips are seen between the programmes. Even then, it's way better than those monotonous food and house programmes.

People can live with their parents after the army, if their parents don't object. If they look after their parents and pay for food etc., they may not need to own or rent their house.

Just a troubleshooting idea.

For the foreseeable future. When I leave, I'll rent, then when I retire, its Chelsea pensioners for me. The thought of paying off a mortgage for the next 25 odd years doesn't appeal to me. I am due to inherit my parents house when they pass, but I have made it clear to them that I certainly don't expect anything to be given to me on a plate, and if they wanted to donate their entire estate to charity or whatever, Then so be it. I like to have the option of doing what I want, when I want, and not have any responsibility like a mortgage or kids to hinder my aspirations. Don't get me wrong, I fully understand why folk get mortgages and want to be homeowners, but it's not for me.

I guess we're not the only country , and maybe it's a good thing but I doubt it , our house prices are inflated ridiculously as were seen as stable place to invest particular London by Foreign investors . Certainly in South East anyway. Just mad

Two that do my head in are come dine with me, and a place in the sun home or away.

Come dine with me, because no-one but me seems to have twigged that if one person marks ALL the others down badly, he/she has to end up as the winner. Simple maths says so. So what's the point? And the snidey voice-over? I'd like to kick his face off.

A place in the sun.......WHY is it run as a "competition" between the home presenter and the away one? WHY do the presenters, especially Jasmine harman, have to act so very, very excited when they "win"???
WHY is Jasmine Harman such a toothy monster? And why does NO-ONE give her advice on how to pronounce the foreign names? Mind, she's got that "angoos of a triangoo" speech going, so she's only semi-literate anyway.

And again...I can tell 90% of the time which couples are serious about wanting a new house and which are there for a free/cheap holiday. So why can't the producer?

We should have 'Come Dine With Me' on line version on SN. Three people out of us NSR lot make some top food and post a picture of it and the poster/cook posing with that food; with the recipes to go with. Then other reader peeps get a week to try those recipes at their own homes. Those reader peeps can then become the judge and the jury and vote for the 1st, 2nd and third prize. The one who wins gets to wear Ditch's silver pair of shoes for a week. So far to and fro postage of Ditch's shoes is concerned, we can do a collection. How does that sound?

I don't think housing competition is such a novel idea, as people already show off their fantastic houses here without any organised completion.

They are truly dire. Why they keep making them I don't know. With the exception of Have I got News for You and Shooting Stars.

On topic, I don't mind Homes under the Hammer - tend to catch it now and again. That relocate to Aus program is proper terrible.

Don't mind the Saturday morning cooking show on 1. Will watch Masterchuff.

The baking programs are poor on the hole and it's probably my favorite thing to make.

Jasmine is a 6 foot toothy monster with weird legs, and can't talk English properly.

The other, blonde bit is carrying about 4 extra stones weight and has tubular legs...look to the ankles.

Plus she's got that "angoos of a triangoo" thing going too.

Are there NO presenters that don't talk southern sh!te?

Speak English, then. My point was that her TEETH make it hard for her to even talk properly, with lots of mangled words, (GOD! What an overbite), and she has an appalling accent, and mis-pronounces almost all French place names....but hey, what's it matter? She only gets PAID to talk.

If that were my job, and I talked like her, I'd slap MYSELF!

I'd suggest you'd try the Radio instead.

But seeing mis-pronunciation irks you, then a radio blaring out Sam Smith and Jess Glynne along with boy bands, girl band and Charlie Puth that all sing "me" as "may". I think you maybe better off just sitting in a quiet dark room.

Anyhoo...what about Sara Damergi??

At least foreign houses can be a little more inspiring, compared to your average ex-druggy's terrace thats being sold for £20K on homes under the hammer.

LOL, I'm not that bad.

But I do tend to let TV folk rile me...sign of a bored mind.

What is it these days with folk being unable to pronounce an "s" properly, either a full lithp or a Jamie Oliver?????? Mainly southern women too.
