Default Bananas.Why???

Just another of those little things that you need to find out.
In the shop today buying some bananas & notice again that most people seem to put them in the little plastic bags provided.

Why do this when bananas already have a very good, substantial natural wrapping that you remove before you eat or use them?

Are you a banana bagger & why?

If I buy them loose, I put them together in those flimsy bags. this way, they remain tidy with their likes and don't knock about with my other shopped stuff that is inside my Aldi bag for life.

Haha I've never understood this either! I'm genuinely chuffed that someone else sees bagging bananas as a waste of time and effort!

When I saw the thread title and your name at the bottom, I knew what was coming. Still going for the low hanging fruit, I see.

I put them in a bag because it gives them somewhere to put the price sticker on at the weighing machine and they cant accuse you of theft.

Also if you buy other fruit such as apples this will cause the bananas to ripen quicker if placed together due to the interaction of natural gases.

Come again ??
If you take themb out any plastic they came in they'll ripen quicker ; not sure understand rest your logic.
And you should have receipt to cover accusation of theft

I always find it amusing how most people peel a banana from the wrong end.

consumerism at its finest I am afraid, its there so i will use it. Guy at work bought a holdall on Amazon as part of his order just to carry to his car, and will probably never use it again...... it came in a box WTF!!!

Why have we bought a bag charge in at supermarkets but left plastic bags in the fruit and veg section? surely a move to paper bags would be a far better idea?

The list goes on.

Well if they do, I'll start sewing my own bags in different shapes and sizes with a waterproof maerial, in order to compartmentalise my shopping and prevent the mess in my main shopping bag-for-life.

I'm more concerned that supermarkets are selling Plantanos (Plantain) labelled as Bananas

I personally don't give a f**k to bananas. I'm more concerned that the coconuts are turning out to be all rotten inside these days.

No other fruit can beat the natural wrapping of a coconut. If I throw one at your head, your head would break, but not the coconut.

Really, sounds a bit silly of them to me as plantain is normally twice the price.

P.S, Wait until they go black, slice them in half, then each half into three length wise, fry very slowly on the lowest possible heat in 3mm of sunflower oil until brown on either side, nectar of the gods.

Couple of eggs and some decent bacon, jobs a good un

They need to be black and soft to the point of appearing rotten and only fit for the bin, so look for ones that are as far gone as possible when you buy, then you need to be careful with them as it will almost want to fall apart as you're slicing and peeling them, (slice before peeling) then again I can't emphasise enough how slowly you need to cook it, for like 15/20 mins which is the secret, then I dare you to tell me there is no flavour.

Should look like this when finished.

An interesting fact which SN Massive must already be aware of:

Apparently, a banana skin takes about two years to biodegrade itself.

Then again, it's said that a banana skin can turn into compost in 3-4 weeks or at the most in 3 months.

I'm not sure whether above is absolutely accurate, but you're not supposed to chuck your banana skin *****-nilly all over the place.

I was told by a friend a long time ago that a banana skin took a full hundred years to decompose- naturally. He wouldn't know the real facts tbh, as he's a highway maintenance engineer.

I will conduct a home experiment to see what's what I am going to bury a banana skin under my patio and check after two years to see how far it has disintegrated. That's if I have any patience for it. Someone like me will lift the patio flags every evening after work, just to see how it's looking, and then perhaps freak out with hocus pocus induced thoughts of scary skeletons coming out from the underground to get me etc.

another interesting fact is that 99% of bananas on the planet are descendants from single plant grown at Chatsworth House, England

They are called the Cavendish banana
