Default Calling cheese loving bargain hunters out there

Cathedral City Special Reserve Limited Edition.
Minimum 36 months matured.Gold medal winning Cheddar.

£4 for 300g at my local Tesco & was on for £2.80 for a short while, hence why I have rather a lot in my fridge.

Do not discount this as a mainstream cheese because of brand snobbery. It is superb, crumbly with a tangy slightly crystaline texture & a rich salty after taste.

Very good & an absolute bargain.Probably the best value properly matured cheddar around at the moment.

Enjoy.
Now down to £2.00. Stupidly inexpensive.

I am a medium cheddar person. I think I might be ready to venture into matured cheddar by now. I must try the recommendations from here.

The mature option is always better.

Yeah, specially when we ourselves are getting more and more mature by age, really. I think taste changes with age. I had medium cheddar chunks today. They tasted almost tasteless. I used to find mature cheddar quite sickly, but now I may find its strong flavour quite palatable, who knows. As I say, I'll give it a go.

I still find that Parmesan cheese quite sickly. As soon as anyone opens the tumbler to sprinkle it over their pasta, it makes me wanna keel over and puke.

I'm just not cultured enough to appreciate quality cheeses. I've just about started to appreciate a hint of Stilton in the food I cook/eat.

Btw my cats eat cheese and yogurt. I don't let them eat cheese intentionally, but they get to eat 1/12th teaspoon full Greek yogurt sometimes. They love it. If it were up to them, they'd eat the whole tub! But I won't ever let them. They may get bad tummy if they over-indulge. I hear that they only need 280 calories per head max. Fat one may need a bit more, I suppose.

Actual parmesan cheese in a lump doesn't not smell like the stuff in a tub

Lovely cheese at a great price, bargain!! Will be heading over to tesco to stock up

Also the parmesan cheese comment,as said is a different class when not out of the tub,has to be a proper block and plenty grated onto the pasta

A know.

I was talking about the one they come with, in restaurants, it's in a huge tower that they shower over your food in its dry state, if you like. People keep a tub of it at home, too. I mean the one who like to smell sick on their food- yuk! IMO only. I'm not slagging others off for their taste. As I say, I'm not cheese wise, so my comment may be an ignorant one.

However, I think the dry Parmesan in a tub is real, too? It's just the grated dried form of some fresh block, isn't it?

I could be wrong but the stuff in tubs contains additives and defiantly not in the same class or taste when grated straight from the block.

Yep even the restraunt stuff isn't "real" it's the same stuff from the supermarket just in a big pot!

Fresh "real" parmesan does not smell or taste anything like that straight off the block

Only recently discovered the 'real' Parmesan was different to the pots, now I've had a taste of the proper stuff,I wouldn't ever go back to the dried pot cr@p ever again!

So, the tub one is dried and stuffed with additives and sh7t. Not really synthetic cheese contents in it, so still not unreal, really.

I'm aware that the block would taste different, many people including my family members who consume the block tell me that, but I wouldn't try it because of the registered bias in my head. I must give the block a go.

How about this for a bargain;
1Kg (two 500g blocks) of 30 month aged Parmigiano Reggiano for only £1.86.
Normal price £20
The reason it was so cheap is because it was in Christmas packaging.
The best before date is end of April.
It was the last one, so it would have been criminal not to buy it (Asda).

Wow! & it's the real deal. Not just any old Italian hard cheese that most people think is Parmisan.

You are now officially 'The Big Cheese'.
