Can't believe it - it reminds you that geniuses don't live forever. RIP
It shows how influential his music was when 'Life on Mars' used it as its main theme in 2007 and still sounded brilliant.

Very sad news, I heard it while driving at the top of the Shaun Keavey breakfast show on 6 Music.
Bizarre how cancer got both him and Lemmy so soon after their birthdays and born only a year apart. RIP

I think we can use the word Legend without criticism for the man, the artiste, the musician, the wordsmith, the showman that was David Bowie
As a spotty 13 year old buying Scarey Monsters and Super Creeps opened up a whole back catalogue of genius work for me and buying whole load of vinyl followed
I felt he became all commercialised with Lets Dance and we never saw the true innovative David Bowie again after that release.
A sad day in my musical life

Heard it on the car radio on the way to work this morning and I was truly shocked. Didn't know he was that ill. Great loss to the music industry.
Rest in Peace, David Bowie.

I went to see him - on the Serious Moonlight tour
in 1983 - I think, at the Milton Keynes bowl (Eddie Grant was the support)
my memory was of perfecting going to the toilet amongst the 30 odd thousand people in a orange juice carton (we were quite near the front)
not a skill I have had to use that often - thank god
wiki says either 1/2/3 July 1983

That's what I loved about him: many of his songs are so varied and different and it wasn't just being different for the sakes of it either. Take Adele as a contrast with her no.1s and record breaking sales but the majority of her songs are the same; same theme, same genre, even similar lyrics (usually about love or some dude she once knew). This is where Bowie is a legendary artist and Adele is just a good singer that can scribble some lyrics together (btw I'm not saying Adele is crap, just contrasting Bowie to a current popular singer).

He went from glam rock to the first white artist to top the American black soul charts, with Young Americans in 5 odd years
Astounding
(Luther Vandross, another fave of mine on backing vocals)
