American Fridge Freezer - extending power cable.
Had an American Fridge Freezer delivered today and the (really quite silly in length) cable wont quite reach the power socket I want to use (short by about 3 feet)
The instruction manual has big "DO NOT USE EXTENSION CABLE" warnings - in fact there are 2 pages of warnings - do not touch the plug with wet hands is my fave.....
Is there a safe way of extending - perhaps special extension cables for this ?
It can stay where it is but wife wants it 3ft to the left....and she's on a mission.

If it's a moulded on plug, use an extension cable but keep it off the floor, hook on the wall will do.
If it's a standard plug, remove it and use and inline connector, a piece of cable and the same plug on the other end.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_fr...ector&_sacat=0 First, fifth and sixth items.

Replace the flex?
Shouldn't be hard if it's like any other white good (follow the cable, it will usually go into a junction box where it will connect to a terminal strip ) will likely need some female spade crimp connectors though, unless you're lucky and it uses screw terminals.

Who cares missys is on a mission. If it's done right with like for like flex I doubt any one would notice bar the loss of the moulded plug.
Extension lead is a bodge, many are cheap Chinese tat with poor internal contacts and connections and fake BS logos. Thats why they are such a huge fire risk and constantly campaigned about by fire and home safety bodies.
The alternative is to fit a spur socket...assuming the nearby socket is on the ring main. IIRC you can't have a Spur spurred off a existing spur. This work will have to be signed off by a qualified spark to keep your insurers happy. It's cheaper and easier just to replace the flex.

What a fuss. Leads are always too short!. Just get a 13 amp extension lead from a proper electrical store, keep it off the floor and blank off any spare sockets.
I had problem with a deep freeze which was in garage. Mice got to find warmth behind unit and chewed all the cables, Bless.
