Default *** DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN NEW STAR WARS FILM !!!!! ***

Seeing as Wikipedia has now published the complete plot for The Force Awakens, and I am assuming that everyone on here can read and therefore avoid opening this thread if they don't want to know plot points, I'd like to discuss the film.

As agreed I will not put up any spoilers anywhere other then this thread, so anyone who has seen it already, or sees it in the next couple of days and wished to comment/question etc, post it in here, and here only, agreed?

So, I will open with a fairly benign one, J J Abrams has re-made episode IV. Admittedly it is a far more polished affair, as most modern films are, but it is essentially a remake, not a sequel. Thoughts?

Agreed on remake of 4 pretty much, it's still a good film but I was a little dissapointed with so many copies of scenes from 4

It wouldn't surprise me if the next one starts with a battle on a snowy planet

I can already see the Yoda/Luke scenes being planned on Skellig!

It's been left very open ended though.

Kyle Ren we assume was left, don't think he was, probably be transformed into a new Vader.

Not sure if Rey is related to Luke, or Leia.

3rd and last post for the time being.

It was funny as fuck when Kylo was going ape shit because Rey had escaped, and the 2 stormtroopers on patrol looked at each other and headed back the way they had came.

Indeed, another EPIV one, Vader we thought was left in Space, Ren we think was left on the planet, but no doubt he will re-appear on EPVIII.

Who is the supreme leader? At first I thought it was a bit daft that he was so big, didn't realise it was hologram!

I don't think Rey will be related to Luke, apart from Anakin ******** Padme, Jedi don't indulge, do they?

Open ended - Because VIII is already planned and IX is being scripted.

I correctly guessed the parentage of Kylo before it released, seemed fairly obvious. I think Rey will turn out to be the daughter of Han and Leia, although she seems pretty powerful and could easily be Lukes daughter. The end scene handing over the sabre would be more poignant if that's the case.

Really enjoyed the film. JJ did a great job

Why would Han and Leia abandon Rey on Jakku? It doesn't make any sense.

The only way I can see it would make sense is if Han had been screwing around and wanted to hide it from Leia, but the way they portray them doesn't really give you an indication that they are anything but devoted to each other (albeit estranged at present).

The age of Rey seems similar to Kylo, so it's not as if they could have hidden her to protect her from him as he didn't turn evil until later in his life, in which case she would have remembered her old family?

I'm sure they will come up with a suitably convoluted and unlikely parentage!

Pretty sure that Rey and Kylo were both children of Han and Leia, no?

Probably put on Jakku in the same way Luke was put on Tatooine, to hide him from the Empire.

"The Force is strong in my family. My father has it. I have it. My sister has it. You have that power, too." - must be talking to a family member.

Although, seems to be a lot of things pointing to being Lukes daughter:
  • Puts on an old X-Wing pilot helmet
  • Grows up hidden on a desert planet
  • Extremely talented pilot
  • Lives in the remains of a downed AT-AT
  • Has force visions when she grabs Lukes lightsaber
  • Extremely powerful in the Force

But on that basis, Ben (Kylo) would also have been hidden for the same reason, but he was not. It just doesn't make any sense.

It would appear that what Luke is saying is just re-recorded from Return in 1983. He says "My Father has it". Vader is dead, so not "had it" which it would have been if the dialogue was relevant to EP VII. Hamill admitted in an interview that he kept fluffing his line when re-recording it to "had" instead of "has". The dialogue seems to be a direct re-hash of the 1983 dialogue, as he says to Leia "you have that power to" in the scene from Return.

The only way that it makes any sense is if Ben is actually quite a bit older than Rey, and they put her on Jakku when it looked like Ben might go rogue. But even then, she was abandoned, it's not as if she was put in with the likes of the Berus or Organas as per Luke/Leia!

But, Ben would have to be about 20 years older, and seeing as this is only 30 years later, and she is about 20, he certainly isn't in his 40s, so that means she would have known her family.

All that said, it still won't surprise me if they make up some bullsh1t excuse how she is, despite the fact that it's virtually impossible for her to be!

We will find out in 2017

Perhaps because she's female, perhaps because she showed no early force signs. Perhaps Han and Leia (who've clearly been apart for a while) split taking one child (twins) each. Just speculating. Would make more sense for her to be Lukes daughter - ended up there after Kylo killed the Jedis, would explain the flashbacks she got.

It is from ROTJ, but it must be there for a reason.

They seem to be the same age. I don't think she was abandoned as such. Just watched from a distance. I think Lor San Tekka is implicated in Rey being there, along with the map to the whereabouts of Luke.

There's something in the scratching of the wall. She's counting days for a return. A collection maybe.

Quite a few theories going on. Can't see Rey being the daughter of Leia / Solo. This leaves Luke as her father so similar story line is certainly going to follow. Other option is that other Jedi,s survived.

Probably Lukes daughter. Although she seems way more powerful in the use of the force than he was.

Agree rehash in many ways of A New Hope. I thought a bit weak plot blowing up yet another type of "Death Star" and the desert planet. Shame stormtroopers are still crap. Was hoping new armour might actually be seen to offer some sort of protection.

Ren got shot by Chewie at range, matched by a stormtrooper and whipped by a girl who picked up a light sabre for the first time.

An Ewok with a club will do him in Star Wars IX

Good film mind.

Agreed - OK, but did think it was a re-hash of EP4 (with the father son scene from EP5 - still the best IMO)

yes thought this was a bit naff tbh and spoilt the scenes for me, not a patch on Palpatine - looked more like something from Hellboy

good analysis

although I kept thinking Kylo looked like Keano in the Matrix (with and without helmet)

and Luke - looked like Eddie Izzard

actually one thing I did think was good was the use of live action

some scenes in the previous 3 films where so heavily dependant on CGI

a couple of scenes in Attack of the Clones looked like watching a video game

I really enjoyed it....will be good to see where the story goes regarding this Snoke and Kylo Ren character.

The only thing that annoyed me is the usual "holds a light sabre for 2 seconds and becomes a jedi master" side of it.

Absolutely loved it and thought it was a great nod to episode IV. Rey in my opinion has to be Luke's Daughter pretty much for the same reasons Dunk has pointed out.

Wasn't too happy with Han Solo being written out of it so soon and Rey has become the new owner of the Millenium Falcon with Chewy.
