Looking into starting a HNC in Electrical Engineering for career progression and was wondering if the assessments (written type) are open book?

It will have to be an "Open Learning" course which I guess will make the process a little more difficult...

I did an HNC in Computer Science years ago, the composition of the course was 50% coursework and 50% examination. None of the exams were open book.

That was back in 1998 by the way.

 

Years ago I did one in construction over 2 years , was ok mostly coursework set in units then exams

 

I did an HNC in mechanical engineering a few years ago. Can't remember the split between course work and exams but seemed more heavily reliant on exams. None were open book, all properly supervised under exam conditions.

Don't let it put you off. If it's something you want to do and something you're interested in its surprising how much easier it is compared to sitting random exams at school.

 

HNC in aeronautical engineering which I then did a 1 year extension to take to HND. I had exams along with coursework and the exams were not open book, that was in 2001, wouldn't imagine the rules would have changed much

I did an electrical engineering HNC during the process of getting my degree (the joys of doing it part time with top up courses rather than enrolling straight on to a degree course). The HNC started off as open book exams but the IET won't accredit anything with open book exams so it all went closed book after that.
