Default impreza gx engine noise

Hoping someone can help. My water pump was on its way so out so I changed it. It's timming belt driven son had to line the cams and crank up. Done all that put it back to get her started it up and now I have a weird noise from the left side of the engine if your sitting in the car.

You can't hear the noise it's just at idle it's only while driving. The noise increase and decrease with the revs and sounds terrible once your over about 3k. I can't really describe the sound but I never had it befor I changed the water pump.

The engine it self's seems to be running perfectly fine and hasn't had any engine lights up.

Also after I've been for a drive the car sounds like a bag of nails has been thown in it. All you can here is tapping.

I did do a big survice on it at the same time as the water pump. I flushed it through with that engine flush stuff and about 10l of oil. Ovo not all in one go. Changed the oil filters in between the oil changes and the engine flush then put clean oil in and has been on that sence.

If its a big mileage car, & Subaru's narrow bearings they don't like engine flush oil at all, its more than likely its done a big end bearing, or bearings, best drain it out & look for metal in the oil.

It's done 103k miles and I was told it was best to do an engine flush by the local parts dealer, to me it dosnt sound like a big end bearing you normaly get a nicking when that goes. I'll take your advice tho and have a look at the oil

Did you fill the oil filter up with oil with every oil change you did ?

Your local parts dealer is talking out of his ****, especially Subaru's, all he is doing is selling you the stuff.

When u say filled the filter do u mean poor it in the filter first then screw it on the bottom of the engine if so no. What I did was ran the engine up to temp. Put took the old oil out changed the filter then put new in with the engine flush ran it for 20 mins then changed the oil and filter again and it's running on the 2nd load of oil with a new filter. Every time I changed the filter tho it was full of oil

Yes, fill the filter before fitting, you have not done this then ?

Most Subaru's fail big ends at high mileage when they have had a recent oil change, by not pre filling the filter up shaves vital seconds off running with no oil pressure, with you doing this numerous times in close succession & running that engine killer flushing oil, I would 100% say its killed the bearings.

Could it maybe be a partly block oil pick up or Evan the oil pump on the way out.
I've got a ej20 non turbo if that helps. It dose sound really tappitey after you've driven it and that's both sides but while your driving you can hear what I would explan as 2 metal parts moving on each other that hasn't got enough oil but the noise stops if you take your foot off the throttle. It's hard to explan. Think I'll change the oil and filter and see if there's anything in there. Other then this noise the engine is running sound as a pound no nocks or lumps

That's why if you take the plug out it circulates the oil round the engine causing no damage before on first ignition as it goes up to bout 1500 revs being started on cold and if there's no oil as you've flushed it all out the damage has been done on the first turn of the key as there's no oil present as you've not taken the correct procedure of an Impreza oil change regardless of being a turbo or non turbo it still runs the same principle especially if you have used engine flush that gets rid of any oil that was there at all so unfortunately the damage has been done already, I don't drive my car 3/4 weeks at a time and when I do I always crank it over by taking the camshaft position plug off that way if got oil all round before a cold start you can't go wrong

If there's nowt else wrong with the car mate get it sorted off a genuine specialist it's not the poor cars fault to be honest and it won't cost you an arm and a leg if the cars right better than starting from scratch just take it as experience and move on don't let it get you down :-) shift happens bro

The body and inside of the car is mint for the age of it. Engine wise it needs new cat, power steering pump and drive belt. Clutch seems sound as a pound still. I bought the car after always wanting a scooby from the age of about 10. I wanted it as a project and to learn while on the way. I do how ever really want a turbo now tho
