Default Big Sur

I'm off to California for Christmas and was thinking of heading to Monterey bay and Big sur while I'm there. Has anyone been to big sur and is it worth going there as its an extra 59 miles south of Monterey bay.

I dont think i will be staying at big sur just a day visit and spend the night in Monterey bay so I can go whale watching the next day.

I checked that link and all I could see was sites to pitch a tent which is something I know my family wont do.

You can book cabins. Not sure it's very good for a day trip, long way from most things and the best stuff involves a good walk.

Maximum length 27ft, so you can tow your home then(UK caravan scale)

Who is that woman trying to steal that dinky car? Get a proper American vehicle for sightseeing http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgur...IVgk8aCh0mfwx3

I'm staying in San Fransisco for the Christmas so it's a big drive down, supposedly Monterey bay is the best for whale watching and that's the main thing we want to do. Big Sur is just an added extra.

If I hire a vehicle I will probably hire a Chevy Tahoe as I would like some comfort when I drive over there

Perfect for Big Sur, miles of dirt roads.

I camped for the night here.

If I'm going to spend one day there these seem to be the places to visit?

Jack,, I would camp but by the time I buy a tent and some sleeping bags I may as well stay in a good hotel

When I and the family drove across USA from LA. We had a infinity QX 85 for the first part and a Suburban the second half. Big comfy cars, but American vehicles just lack grunt compared to big engine European cars. My old Q7 would destroy a Suburban.

The suburban is good if your a big family as I think its a 9 seater SUV. The Tahoe is a huge 7 seater SUV and there is only 3 of us. I'm sure the Tahoe is as big as my Renault trafic van.
