Terrible news.

I'm not sure if this was a spectator area or free for all spectating that's too normal in Rallying. Either way more improvements are needed.

Yeah, but equally a bit of common sense goes a long way.
Like don't stand on the outside of a bend for a start

Tried encouraging common sense for years and of course it's way better than it was, but it's still not even close to acceptable. There's no simple way to control tens of thousands of people over miles of open stages, sweeper crews and heli's help but lead to cancelled stages not crowd control, I fear for the future of rallying.

RIP, very sad. I've seen that footage before and it always amazes me. The footage from 1:57 where the car literally separates the crowd is ridiculous and the on-board footage towards the end shows just how fast the cars are going! The drivers are going flat out and simply have to trust that people will get out of the way in time!

I know people who used to work for the works teams , and they have seen fingers snapped of stuck in the spoilers of cars where these idiots used to try and touch the cars going past !

Its a lot safer in the UK , how these events don't get more fatalities abroad is amazing

I'm not sure how old many of you are. But ultimately this was the demise of group B cars, and its nothing short of a miracle why more of this didn't happen

Love watching the group B videos, those cars and drivers really are something else.

If F1 had crowds that were all over the track there would be a public uproar, and yet F1 cars are far more predictable than rally cars. As has been said, it's incredible that there haven't been far more rally spectators killed.

Driving flat out into a wall of people without backing off is a case of drivers putting great trust in the spectators' ability to move at the last moment, or a certain disregard for their safety. Probably a bit of both.

Whilst I am sad for the people who died and their families, the report reads like using a bit of common sense would have kept them alive
Two things I learned very early in my spectating life; 1. Never stand on the outside of a bend & 2. always stand above the level of the road.

It's not just a car you could get hit by, I've seen people visiting the St Johns boys with all sorts of injuries from chunks of rock thrown up by cars as they've passed

The fact that it is safer in the UK is thanks mainly to the higher standards of regulation and marshalling than on the the continent I think. I've seen some proper fcukwitted speccys in my time
