Got an epic journey to do tomorrow, two quads to collect from two different locations.

Pick up hire van from Swansea 08.15, three hours down M4 to High Wycombe, done this route before so no problem.

Then I head to North Yorkshire, Bedale, just north of Ripon.

Question is, route planner shows three routes from High Wycombe to North Yorkshire, all roughly the same time/mileage. Either M40 then across to M1 and A1M or M25 M1 A1M or M25 A1M. Has anyone done this journey? Any advice as to which is best? Any routes to avoid?

 

M40 - M1, you might hit traffic that way, you will hit traffic on the others.

 

Avoid the M25 wherever possible. I'd use M40 myself. That said......the motorway's only as good as the numbers of lanes available. Accidents aside, I'd still go up the M40 route.

 

I use the A1 regularly - from the Black Cat roundabout, (St Neots / Bedford area ) and travel north to Worksop

Brilliant road, dual carriageway but fast and free flowing

And the A1 is pretty good from the M25 - especially when going against the traffic

Thanks everyone, so looks like the m1 should be avoided! I'll look at the traffic reports on the day and decide between the m40 or a1.
