The great heroes are becoming fewer and fewer - unbelievable what they had to go through during the war years, not knowing if any given day was going to be your last.
It always astounds me that Guy Gibson (who was the wing commander of 617, very experienced man, VC, DSO, DFC and a true hero also) was only 26 when he was killed in action. How many current 26 year olds come close?
