Default Snoop, ban, tax, control!

Well it's been a couple of weeks since Cameron was voted in by those who are dumb enough to entrust the country to a man like him and already we have yet more snooping laws (as if we aren't already snooped on enough) and this morning this little gem:

Legal highs: Seven-year jail terms under 'blanket ban'

The premise here is basically we can't be bothered to find out if a substance is actually bad for you so we are just going to bang you up for getting high!

I wonder if this will extend to alcohol. By rights it should!

Welcome to the police state you all voted for!

My question is, will the legal highs in question be re-named as illegal highs, then?

The thing with legal highs is that they are easy to make.

Word will get around that if you mix paracetamol and ibuprofen with a banana and a bit of petrol and nail varnish - it gets you high. And we will call it "PAZZAZ".

So, the law ban this new "PAZZAZ" drug.

The creators just make another pill using an apple instead of a banana and call it something else - and so it goes on....

If someone wants to partake of a substance then that's up to them!

People die every day from tobacco and alcohol. Doesn't stop people and the government do little in real terms about it!

So what? If people are dumb enough let them crack on. Stop passing more and more laws that cost more and more money!

i heard on the radio about a week ago how 3 people ended up in hospital after taking a legal so called cannabis equivilant . i find that says a lot about the law where a legal version of a drug puts you in hospital and the illegal version would never do that

people will point out that cannabis may cause mental health issues in a very small minority of users, but that is a whole differant debate

my opinion is legalise all drugs and spend the money on education , im sure it is possable to make safe highs and have any unwanted side effects listed as with any prescription drug, thats the very basic idea anyway

It's how society works. For instance I deep down resent paying for child benefit, kids' education, child friendly this that and the other as I have no kids and dislike most kids as they are unruly little ****s, but society decrees I have to pay my whack so I do.

If someone gets into trouble thorough obesity, drink, alcohol or whatever then my taxes help pay for their healthcare. I am responsible enough to not get into that sot of state these days, but many aren't and a law banging them up isn't going to stop them or help them!

Nothing to do with snooping let alone taxing

Its just a desperate attempt to reinforce the possibility that all this stuff out there is potentially harmful .

25 years ago delivery from china wasn't as good

You have to do something to protect the average 18 y/o experimenter, after all - all that child benefit could well be down the drain

The thread title was a synopsis of your chosen party's government's idea of social policy! I thought that was obvious, but not to you... obviously!

is it not possable to make a legal high that is tested to not contain any harmful substances , should the government not be doing that , give people safe options ? there must be a reason its not being done ,

some people want to get high in other ways other than alcahol whats bad about that

Afraid to say I agree with this one, very different to a weed you could grow in your window sill. Slightly worried that tobacco is exempt but no mention of nicotine which would affect me.

It's not taxed and anyway it's the divine right of all Brits to get pissed, become obnoxious and aggressive, fight and throw up everywhere. No, nothing wrong with alcohol

not sure if you understood what i said , what i ment is . whats wrong with wanting a differant high than alcahol.

my question is , why do the government not give the people what they want . a safer way to get high . through regulation and education . instead of making them criminals for getting high , the war on drugs is rediculous (sp?)

they must have a reason for it and its not for individuals health or alcahol and tabacoo should be banned.

when you compare those two drugs to cannabis i cant see any logic in the law as it is

and shouldnt it be the people that make the legal highs with harmfull substances in them that are criminals .if people made a chocolate bar with harmfull substances would they consider banning all chocolate bars

I'm agreeing with you, the point I am making is that alcohol is nicely taxed so the government don't want you getting high on something that isn't. Control as I said!

the tax thing makes sense as far as cannabis goes but other drugs that arent easly home made could be taxed, i believe the reason for banning cannabis are far more complex , it would open the doors to the actual effects of cannabis being tested openly and probably involving pharmaceutical companies that will never agree to a natural substance being recognised as a medicine, and its them that dictate what a doctor can prescribe . but thats getting away from the origanal thread

Oh well , lets just get government to test out every single possible combination of elixirs possible before putting them out there , it'll sure to cost no more than a couple bob to the tax payer and be ready next Tuesday ....

You're off your rocker , seriously

Theres little point in producing a legal high , where is the fun in that
