Let them come...could they make a worse job of running the place than the current lot of politicians?

I mean...we beat Germany in WW2, and are now their lapdog.

It's nothing out of the ordinary, just cat and mouse as they do it every couple of months and fly through International airspace but once close enough to UK airspace the Typhoons are sent out to greet them and taker lovely photos of them.

3 Russian naval frigates went through the English Channel this morning and were followed by one of our own.

Just Russia on a wind up due to the Ukraine situation.

.
I find it funny how the typhoons are sent from Scotland, one of the recent incidents, it was a Russian bomber that is capable of similar speeds to the typhoon. They could be in and out before the typhoons even get there!

They get sent from Lossiemouth as it's the closest base to the path the Russians take coming in North of the Baltics and round the top of Norway. They have no other route without breaching Nato member states airspace.

watched a program about right wing political stuff in russia, putin seems to be being put up as the next hitler and people are falling for it, talking about bring back cccp etc etc, not sure how mainstream that sort of view is, could just be the usual media waffle

Honestly it all really is a storm in a tea cup, the media blows all these fly bys out of proportion, the planes are miles away from UK air space and what more they are old type bombers that even if they tried would not be able to do anything. i think reason is that they need to test them and keep the pilots trained as they are meant to be long range bombers.

On the other hand i dont see any one ever complaining about US testing their stuff full well knowing that their defence budget is more than the folowing 9 countries on the top 10 list.

No and they never have. The reason for the interception is that although they are flying in International airspace their flight path is directly towards UK airspace which is what triggers the response.

These events are nothing worth reporting about and as already mentioned just media sensationalism. The more worrying events were the reports of a suspected Russian Sub surfacing very close to the shoreline off of Sweden not so long ago. What they do with their Subs and where they go in them is of far more interest. For example how they even managed to get to where they did completely undetected until they surfaced.

not to mention, why surface at all?

Problem with the sub?, propagander to say 'where here and you can't stop us?'

They have form for that too. Rumour has it that it was a Russian sub that surfaced just off the coast of Buenos Aires in the spring of '82, well before any of ours arrived on station
