Default Halfords mechanic caught speeding in Focus ST in for MOT

How daft do you have to be with the camera in view of the windscreen:

Utterly thick. Why did it need a test drive for an MoT?

Yep. All cars should be road tested before and after any mechanical work and even bodywork. It has to be done in order to a) identify any problems that just looking at the car won't find, b) to make sure nothing is wrong before and after the work has been completed. Its also known as covering one's ****, as its highly common for people to use the line "it was alright before you messed with it" to blame a already pre-existing fault on to the garage.

Its also common not wear seatbelts either...why? Well do you want greasy muck off the overalls rubbing on to the seat belt and then transferring from the belt onto the owner's nice white shirt? Thought not.

Speeding well, we all do it, as long as its not blatently wreckless. Depends on what the car is in for....If it has a misfire during WOT, how else are you going to replicate the fault to diagnose it? Servicing, not really required, unless its also being MOT'd, which if driven by a sedate driver often needs a proper warm-up and throat clear in order to get through emissions. Save times during the emissions test as the car will pass through the BETS test.

Lots of fleet stuff we do now has dash cameras and trackers. In the end of the day its on our insurance, its my (clean) licence, so whats the big deal?

To be honest the only thing I'm shocked about is that someone took their car to Hellfrauds to be serviced!!

There isn't really one, unless they're killing your tyres, or binning it.

If a car is in for a WoT misfire, then as you say the owner should expect the car to be tested appropriately in order to identify and eliminate the fault, but the high street is not the best place to do that is it?
However if it's just a service/MoT you can't brush off this kind of behaviour by simply saying we all speed, two wrongs never yet made a right. And even if it does require the cats warming up prior to an emissions test you can't condone driving at almost twice the speed limit through a 30mph built up area to achieve that.

As are cars with lsd's, any other type of cars can be roller or plate brake tested and therefore dont really need to be taken on a roadtest whilst having an mot.

I personally wouldn't let Halfords servicing anywhere near a Focus ST. It's the kind of car that needs a local specialist.

I normally unplug the dashcan for servicing/mot, on the basis I’d rather not know what they do or don’t do, I’ve got better things to worry about.

However, I recently forgot to unplug it when I had the Suzuki Mot’d, curiosity got the better of me when I realised after it had been returned…….I wish I hadn’t looked

One of the guys on here had his 460bhp hatch taken out by the Subaru main dealer garage after they serviced it only for them to drive it & thrash it on low oil level after THEY serviced it causing damage to the engine. He had to get Engine Tuner to re-build the engine again to check for damage.

Garages have driven customers cars for years. It's a good job the Hellfrauds tool got caught this time!

Should of stuck with my local who do a very good job.

There was a thread on here 4/5 years ago where by a tasty Impreza was written off by a specialist when on a test drive when in for some work, if I remember rightly it was written off at speed in the wet.

I think one of best ones was over on MLR where a tuner told a customer that his newly built engine in his biggish power Evo had died during mapping on the rollers. When the customer collected the car the hidden dash cam showed footage of the car being used as a "pool car", collecting lunch for employees, driving at speed in built up areas and taking customers out for test drives.....This was all after they told him the engine had died!

My cousin had his Audi TT written off by the dealership after one of the mechanics binned it on top of a large roundabout.
