I'm not an expert on tumble dryers but I can tell you that the Candy only got 41% in the Which tests. This Beko below got 60% and is the same price at AO.com.

I can highly recommend AO. I bought a cooker from them last week and the service was really good. They give a 2 hour delivery slot.

I assume he means this one. 62% in the Which tests

http://ao.com/product/WTE84106GB-Bos...ite-27078.aspx

If you use quidco you normally get 2% cashback with AO. It looks like for today only you get 10% cashback for Bosch major appliances as well.

The candy one is actually discontinued. or out of stock in most places until december Im not sure if they are releasing a new model or what?!

The candy ones are actually very unreliable according to what I have read online.

From Which:

This dryer is annoyingly noisy, leaves clothes very creased, and doesn't do a good job of trapping the moisture taken from clothes in the removable tank. It’s definitely one to avoid.

Bearing in mind the Candy one got 41% and the Bosch one 62%, it's not totally positive but it might be down to the cost

From Which:

This Bosch will dry your clothes quickly, but it will make a racket, and there is a risk that synthetic loads will come out damp to the touch. This dryer is OK, but not brilliant.

"..and there is a risk that synthetic loads will come out damp to the touch.."

a peculiar thing about 'Condensing' dryers, is that clothes, sometimes, feel 'damp' when removed from the dryer - this apparent dampness disappears as the clothes 'air' in the ambient temperature..............

FWIW Hoover appliances were the same as Candy, just with a few styling tweeks. So you probably can get the equivalent model with a Hoover badge....we have a Hoover Vision washer in Spain, it is the same as the candy varients....its ok, bar a software glitch with out-of balance loads (it gets stuck in a perpetual loop and won't spin), the overall quality is, well, not Bosch. I'd suggest the dryers follow suit.

Bosch can be split into two categories...the lower to mid end (usually Classixx ) share alot with mid range Balay (Spanish brand made in the same factories ), still good quality and solid. But the high end stuff (logixx) comes from elsewhere. Same applies to Siemens and Neff.

None are bad IMO, but there is a noticeable difference in quality/feel between the Classixx range and the Logixx ranges. Something I noted after trawling through every appliance retailer in the West Mids looking at kitchen appliances...ended up with Siemens, and a few grand on the credit card statement.

Easy to do and I noticed the same when looking, and I just couldnt justify 500+£ for a freaking tumble drier, it is insane money!

The Bosch Classixx stuff is of a noticeably better quality than the other stuff in the price range IMO and is worth putting the extra 50quid forward for, especially as you get a 2 year guaruntee with it as opposed to a year for no extra cost,

I agree. Seeing the Hoover/candy washing machine we have is one of the affected models that are prone to exploding (have a google ), I'm kind of wishing we had paid the extra for the Bosch/Balay/Siemens/Neff.

OK that's washing machines, not a dryer, but IMO the quality tends to follow through a brands entire appliance range.

I'm lucky on the Hoover / candy front. The factory is 10 miles from my house and get insane discount on machines compared to retail. Plus one of the old repair engineers that worked there for many years is now an independent repair man so the 5 year parts guarantee works out nicely especially when you run care homes where the machines are driven within an inch of their life everyday apart from the odd burnt out stat or something trivial the tenants have caused like snapping a handle etc I can't say I've had a great deal of problems with Hoover stuff.

Useful thread this as my old White Knight vented tumble dryer blew up this week so I'm looking at a respectable condenser replacement.

Currys seem the only decent local with choice but I'll be checking out the AO link above too.

Have you bought one yet, Ian?

What's up with it? Parts for them are pennies and are mega easy to change.

not yet, really only wanted to send around £200 with a max of £250.

It is the same with everything, you think you have found a good one, but the more you look into things, the more it doesn't make sense lol

It's rotten from the inside at the back and a plate fell off mid cycle chewing up the inside

Not really worth fixing as it's an old inefficient vented one. I'd rather get a newer, slightly more efficient condenser type that doesn't require our bathroom window open in the middle of winter

I'm looking at this one currently;

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/househo...pdt.html#cat-0

Simple to use and the parts warranty/amount of reviews is encouraging.

what is the 10 year guarantee about on one of the pictures?

is it much better than the candy one? as that is a B rating and this is a C?

Parts guarantee I believe. I'm not going on the energy rating do much as looking for a reliable unit. I'm not spending Miele or high end Bosch money, but not am I plumbing (get it!) for the cheapest one. Hotpoint have been ok for me in other appliances, I don't know or trust Candy personally.

Did you look at this Beko one? 60% on the Which ratings compared to 41% for the Candy and the same price (£199).

Picked up and installed the Hotpoint one I mentioned above, today.

Seems a good unit and massive inside too. Nice an quiet, £199 down from £299.
