Question Car Warranty Question

My pal Sue who lives in our village and is of the older generation backed her car into a parking space and scratched the adjacent car a newish Merc', which was coming out.

Being an honest citizen Sue jumped out, apologised to the driver, and said she would meet repair cost.

A local guy quoted £180 for re-paint and confirmed it was just scratched and no dents. But Merc owner is saying she must get it done by Mercedes to keep her Warranty intact. Mercedes price is £500

So does Merc' owner have a valid point? I thought legislation was brought in some time ago which loosened the terms that manufacturers could use restricting third party repairs?

Cheers, David

if the merc owner won't be sensible and do it for cash

I would just get insurance to sort it out, with all the hassle that will come with (for the Merc driver)

that's what you pay the premium for

It's likely true. They have a separate warranty for the bodywork. If another repairer/non Merc approved body shop does a repair and the owner later experiences any corrosion issues, the warranty will not cover it. They give 30 years on them nowadays, so it's understandable.

A very expensive lesson to Sue: watch where you are going!

Looks like £500 it is then. At the end of the day if it was your nice shiny car would you want it done by the dealer or not...I know I would.
