Default Falling Asleep/Dozing

While driving. Whenever I'm driving a longish journey(1 hour or more) I seem to be really tired and feel that I'm going to fall asleep at the wheel. It makes no difference to what time of day it is or even if I feel I've had a good nights sleep. Anyone else get/have this?

What score do you get?

Any medications, medical history?

Height, weight, fitness? Drugs or alcohol issues?

Shortish, probably overweight, not too unfit, do a lot of cycling. No medication and no history. Don't and have never taken drugs, love beer but don't get enough

Just don't close your eyes when you feel like this as it won't end well, I did it a few times when I was young and luckily someone else was always in the car to grab the wheel

Got a newish car now, it's been happening for a while now. Regarding having the windows open, I've tried that, even turn the radio up. Still the same.

Agree, just wanted opinions with others. I'm not worried about what happens to me, I'm worried about my family and other road users.

Age

I passed my test in 1982, and have driven 100 of thousands of miles, and could regularly do 4/5/6 hours without a stop

But in the last few years I really really feel it, especially when driving after a long day at work

I do stop and just "let go"

And at night, jeez doubly worse, as I said -- age

Aka Pickwickian syndrome.

A possibility, but usually seen a bit older than 36 and usually in people running higher BMIs.

Agreed with the earlier suggestion that a trip to the GP is in order as this could end up in a nasty pileup.

think I better, I have thought that when you just drift off in a daze/dreaming it was because I was tired/bored.

Working nights I get this a lot. I always make sure window is open and definitely no heaters... for me its the long straights on motorways that are the worst.

sometimes I do about 14 hours depending on how busy we are, and then i have a 65 mile commute home, so don't end up getting home until nearly 9am. Luckily my shift is 4 on 4 off so plenty of time to catch up on sleep on days off
