Definitely something I'll be listening to, but no Waters involvement again.

Good.

Floyd became progressively weaker after DSOM for me as Waters grip became tighter. The last album and DG solo album showed Floyd finished on the up.

Waters solo albums are weak beyond belief, he became too insular.

No, better than later works of Animals, Final cut and all Waters solo albums. Maybe on par with the Wall and Wish You were here.

DSOM, Meddle, Atom Heart Mother, Saucerful Of Secrets and their 1969-73 live interpretations just blows everything else away.

I can't say I've ever listened to any of Waters solo stuff.

There's 1 or 2 decent tracks on each of the 3 albums but they are too operatic for my tastes.

Amused to death has the best rep but I like the feel of Pros and Cons. None of his solo work really comes close to the brilliance of Keep Talking, High Hopes, Marooned and Wearing the inside out.

'Marooned' a guitar based instrumental about a Whale trying to communicate with its beached partner. Words couldn't do a song like that justice.

This is a band that will never be bettered.

Aren't you getting Waters and Gilmour confused?

Marooned as in this first track Love it I downloaded this, and Gary Moore's version of Red house from the same concert just over a year ago and listened to it every morning cycling to work whilst my Type R was off the road.

Oh, and that Strat he's playing is the infamous "number 1".

A modded strat 1!

I'd never confuse Dave and Rog. Though I didn't know who sang 'Welcome to the Machine' for a few good years.

TBH my favourite vocalist isn't Syd, Dave or Rog but Rick Wright. He has an Art Garfunckle quality that is just way beyond my melancholic preference when applied to prog/psych rock.

Meddle is fantastic, esp Echoes; saw this performed live at Gilmour's 'On an Island' concert at the Albert Hall in 2006.

Not sure that Atom Heart Mother was that good though.

i still think a collaboration between gilmour and waters could have been an interesting "project" as dave likes to call them. after all this time (pun intended) and all thats happened between them and in the world there is plenty of inspiration for material. i,ll buy the album regardless as i love floyd.

Marmite album, certainly the most demanding of Floyd albums save for Ummagumma. (slang word for sex by all accounts)

You can't enjoy AHM as background music. It's one to lay in bed to on a cold, wet, wintry night and enjoy through some high end headphones.

Live versions of the title track always blow me away. Especially when Dave and Rick do their choirboy routine.

The Division Bell is pretty good but love The Wall live at the Royal Albert Hall 1981.
I do enjoy what Waters brings to the band that puts them slightly off the norm!

My point on posting the Division Bell was to highlight the fracture between Waters and Gilmour.

Poles apart speaks to Syd (Barrett) and Roger Waters.

I know, but to me the division bell was clearly Floyd without Waters. A good album but definitely not of the same sound as post Barrett. You would have hoped over the years, including Live 8 and Wrights death they would have worked together on an album which has some of Wrights early rehearsal recordings on.

Edit - sorry I've just seen that it was poles apart you posted not the whole division bell album. Face palm!

'Echoes' has a similar effect on my little crew so I mostly plug into 'phones in case they counter with something upmarket like Westlife or that little tit Justin Bieber.

I once had a car full of rowdy girls when I was a boyracer "back in the day" and I ended up putting Floyd's 24 minute epic 'Atom Heart Mother' track on to drown them out, after 5 minutes the car was eerily silent, a quick look in my interior mirror let me know each girl was deep in contemplation, a further 10 minutes of silent bliss passed then one of the girls spoke: "Matt, what the fuϲk are we listening to."

Years ago on a long distance drive for some reason or another the mother in law was in the back and the Mrs just checked a cd in. Near the end of a live version of Machine gun by Jimi Hendrix whilst jimi as playing using feedback she shouted "what the hell is this noise"!!!!
