Question

Got stopped Sunday night @ 21.00 on M4 Swansea west junction doin 90.82 & given a fixed penalty i asked how the copper how he had recorded my speed he said that there are two boxes on the side of the road that check you speed over a set distance & transmit it up to a cop car out of sight on a bridge. When the same sretch of road was checked by a mate there was no signs or warning of the trap ahead. Anyone been had in the same way?

Dunno

Check http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/frames.htm ask for the details of the trap. They can't do you unless it's been through type approval. There was talk of a device that put a beam across the road and when you broke the beam it measured time and distance from that. But this was still in the testing stage.

Might have been a mobile gatso?

Question

If the cop was out of sight, how did he know that it was you speeding?

When using Vascar and the like, the Police must not lose sight of you at any point, otherwise the trap is invalid!

Things are getting silly these days - you can hardly make a motorway journey without passing some road safety van or similar raking in the cash (er, reducing accidents)
