Default Would you go to Cairo?

I know sharm seems to be quite safe but how about Cairo? My kids want to see the pyramids and the Cairo museum, would you go?

Thanks

I've spoke to a few people who have been and said they wouldn't go back, seemingly the beggars are a massive problem harrassing (<sp?) tourists to much.

Egypt is a place I've always wanted to visit as I'm fascinated by the pyramids etc but as per the points already mentioned it puts me off going.

Studying Egytology at an amature level Cairo and Alexandria were two places I wanted to go to, and see the Pyramids.

I have been and ticked the box, would never go back and ended up very disappointed.

Dirty and an unsafe feeling.

So much litter and crap around the great Pyramids it was unbelievable.

It was alway my dream to go there, I just wish I had left it as a dream.

I went as I always wanted to do the touristy sight seeing things and was quite disappointed when I did.

Sharm is good for a tan but the place is a toilet IMO.

Probably on my own but have no plans.

Not sure about if I had a family.

The Pyramids would probably be the tourist trap of tourist traps.

Don't take a hot air balloon ride!

Aren't they too busy shooting each other these days to bother with a tourist?

Looks like Thailand might be off the list for a holiday soon too.

Never been to Egypt and not sure I'd fancy it. By all account Sharm is fairly sanitised (perhaps the wrong word) from a perspective of being a money spinning tourist resort but still lacks the hygiene of the modern western world. Everyone I know who's been has had some sort of stomach complaint whilst there. Not my idea of an ideal holiday.

To be fair, my missus was ill and I must admit Cairo was filthy, nevertheless I was blown away by the history.

I didn't visit Cairo. Not even in 2011.

I will, one day. I ought to see some Egyptian Cat Gods statues for real.

The driving's amongst the worse I've ever experienced, but it was still a huge buzz being driven around the city. The Egyptian Museum was fantastically interesting!

Go to Lahore, valley of the Queens, Abu simbel etc and if you want to visit Chiro do it as a 2/3 day trip.

I have some very good contacts over there that will look after you, (wife was a tour guide out there for many years) send me a PM and i'll give you some details of some very nice people that won't rob you and make sure you have a good time.

Alternatively go onto the Explore website and book one of their all inclusive tours, my wife worked for them for 15 years and they will take you off the beaten track to give you a taste of the real Egypt.

Edit to add; It's a fantastic place but like everywhere you need to know the right people.

Cairo, not Chiro! It's not some Chiropractor he's planning to visit.

I was there on business a while back and, of course, took some time off to see Pyramids and museum which was pretty cool. Pretty dirty and smelly and certainly not a place for women on their own.

I wouldn't go now just for a holiday. More interesting and safer places to go in the world if you want to get away.

If you do visit don't leave your arm sticking out of the window or you will lose it. Traffic is mind blowing

Possibly a touch safer there

I think people may have misunderstood. I've already been to Egypt about five times, including Cairo, Karnak, valley of the queens etc. This was a long time ago before I had kids and before the troubles started. I have no real issue with beggars, a bit of dirt etc as its the same in most developing countries.

I don't want to go back myself but the kids are hassling me to see the pyramids.

Really the issue is whether due to the recent troubles it would be safe.

Ditchy, thanks I'll bear that in mind.

My comment was just a joke, but seems you don't want to let what's gone before be water under the bridge so here goes!

You claim to be ignoring me yet if you were you would not have posted the above. It also didn't didn't stop you finding time to make snidy comments about me when I was banned did it?

The real laugh is I am not the one who changed my username to be able to pretend to not be something I am. That would be you!

So if that makes you Mr. Balanced and Normal I will eat my hat!

Now there are no expletives or insults in here just facts so you can't really complain. I am also going to leave it there as you are after all ignoring me and anyway this board doesn't need another spat, but I will say this... you will always get what you dole out back from me in spades so the rest is up to you!

If you choose to ignore me fine, great even, but maybe you need to work out what that actually means first as you seem to have a bit of a block about it!
