Silver on black is a pre '72 thing - that's 1972 by the way !

Yep

My Dad had a driving ban for using black and silver plates on a modern car*

*Ok, it was in the 1980's and he had a few bevvies. But the reason why he was pulled was becuase of the black and silver plates he put on the car.

Which brings me to my point, why draw attention to yourself by having dodgy plates?

Legit is the way to go...I got pulled last month for driving too fast. Copper had no evidence as I saw him in time and slowed down (I was tanking it). I played the fair cop routine, nice as pie and admitted I may have got carried away. I got a warning. End of.

If I had a dodgy (illegal) plate, well, just an excuse to throw the book at me.

I had 3D gel number plates on my Astra VXR. Very smart looking but a bit pricey for the pair. I actually unticked the box where it states whether you want the 'legal postcode bit' in small print at the bottom so technically they were illegal, but I had the option for the legal small print. I like the clean sleek minimalistic look on a plate.

On my classic Impreza I just have the standard printed ones because they don't do the 3D gel number plate in the small illegal plate size for the front of my Impreza (12' x 3')

http://www.platesforcars.co.uk is where I got the pair of 3D gel plates from.

http://www.a1showplates.com is where I got the standard small sized plate from.

My 3D gel plates were £50.97 posted for the pair which I'd highly recommend. They aren't the carbon styles ones... just plain black. Don't like fake carbon

I was gonna have a cheesy slogan also but unsure what to have .....

I've always said this, the best way to break the law is to be a legal as possible.

Its like them drug dealers you see on the cop shows that have lots of money and buy a legal car (like a m3/rs4 ) and don't bother to insure it. Or worse still that carry round £30,000 of coke and don't wear their seat belt or drive round with a bulb out. I mean for the price of a bulb they loose their car and the £30,000 of drugs.

No it's not.... Standard plate size is 20'x4.5'. You could have a 16'x4.4' which isn't as wide and it would probably be fine. That front one on my classic 12'x3'.

IMO the whole number plate legality debate has been discussed so many times. No plod will ticket you for not having the postcode small print at the bottom of a plate but I'm probably pushing it with the size of my front plate. I highly doubt I'll be stopped on the road purely because of it though. I also think you'd get away with a not-so-wide 16' plate.

you can have a shorter plate, if you have less letters... ie: not taking up so much length.

Yep 16'..... I used to have a 16' on the rear but it just didn't look right so went back to a 20' wide plate which actually filled the gap on the rear bumper where the number plate was supposed to sit.

Maybe you could put a word in to the boss to sack the website designer I find it really un-user friendly and it doesn't look nice to the eye either. All IMO of course.

depends how many letters you have

I got some more made up this weekend at Modifoed Nationals, all standard letters and size, just on a shorter plate (I cut it down)

Tonight I have done a few sets of bike gel letters (they have the blank plates) @ 3 quid a letter....
80 quid a set is having your pants down, if anyone would pay that
