Default I need a piece of 6mm square steel bar, about 300mm long.

I've checked ebay, and all they have is stuff with rounded corners. Mine needs to have sharper corners.

Looking online gives loads of places selling it in large quantities.

Anyone know of anywhere that would sell me a small piece?

I've looked at steel for (Woodruff) keys, but I'm not sure it's suitable. Maybe too hard.

It's to make the connector between a pair of antique French door handles.

TIA

If you can get hold of some 3/8" round and grind flats on it. Maybe ok if its hidden in the door between the handles.

Has to fit into 6mm holes in the handles, and through a 6mm hole in the lock mechanism.

Hence me not wanting rounded corners: gives it too much play.

Was just on the phone ordering some alloy from our suppliers and asked them and they said they have 6mm key steel which is made for what your doing , I can get some off them they said it would be £10-£15 ish , and I can post it up for you.

If not just try a local metal suppliers and just walk in and ask for an offcut

Cheers Ian

Thanks for the replies.

Bought a 330mm length of 6mm square key steel off ebay, £4.45 posted.

I had seen that, but was unsure whether it was the correct stuff.

LOL, no, I can't really ask for a piece 86mm long, can I?

I have two to do, eventually, so this will do both. I just hope it's easy enough to saw and drill.
