I've been looking at these of late, can't believe how cheaply you can get a quadcopter for aerial photography now and fairly idiot proof as the GPS and gyros do most of the hard work of flying for you. Not ready to spend £400+ yet but am tempted to get a Syma X1 http://www.symatoys.com/product/show/1878.html and a keychain camera for a bit of messing around over the park.

Also look at offerings from Blade Helis and Walkera.

The gimble is abit fragile on the plus as you could have one crash and it be no good as they break easily

Sadly only a matter of time before they are banned as I was hearing that someone flew one into a police helicopter in the states recently

Great bit of kit though, a couple of guys at work have them

I don't think they would be banned but maybe have them limited to certain heights from the manufacturer.

people have had RC planes and helicopters for years that go higher than the phantom 2
only difference is these record in hd the police pilot crapping himself woundering what just hit his helicopter LOL

You dont need to update it really out of the box but what you could do is to download the software on the pc and then plug the phantom in via usb to see what firmware you have. You could turn your internet off if you want so it dont force you to update. Not sure what firmware there on at the moment. If you go on the dji website you should get so information there and also theres plenty of phantom facebook pages and a uk phantom page. Not sure what the hight limit was set at. Maybe in the advance setting it might be able to change it. Its been a while since ive been on it. But thats why ive not had it plugged into the pc because of Restrictions

The CAA have an exemption for FPV users now at 1000ft.

The rules for hobbyist fliers are much better than if you want to use it for personal gain, ie, business use.

With the added FPV and a Black Pearl 7" Colour Monitor/Receiver. It could easily reach over 1km now with video :-)
