Did anyone else see this programme last night:

Saw it,
And yes I was lucky enough to experience a Mexico in the day
Albeit as a passenger and at brakeneck speed round our country lanes. I'd left it too late to make it to the station in reality but sisters boyfriend said jump in, only a 3 mile trip down our country lanes I should think but it can't have taken more than minute and a half. It was lucky nobody was coming the other way, and he only semi lost back end on one 90 degree corner..

There has been a lot of $hite shows of this type, but this one seems well conceived. Really enjoyed it and I have it on record on the old pvr. Looking forward to the Land Rover next.

Exactly, he's presenting the show at the end of the day and I think he did it well.

I thought he was very good.He had a good approach & knew how to talk to people on their level & let them explain the details.Also he has a good sense of humour.
If he was a 'car nerd' I think it would be less appealing to a wider audience.
If it gets more people involved in car related activities then all well & good.
A lot of people are put off by so called specialist interest groups & see them as the realm of the super nerds.Hence some of the problems that new members have on here.

Totally agree, he was an utter embarrassment. Much like that Idross Elba character was in that last attempt to bring someone with little genuine car knowledge onto a car programme.

I'd love to own that but for 18k it would result in the Mrs removing a valuable part of my anatomy with a kitchen knife

I sort of understand the appeal of a MK1/2 Escort but they are so expensive for what is a bog basic, not very powerful, Cart sprung car.
85 BHP standard, the Mexico wasnt all that special, the RS 2000 wasnt either really, I drove a MK2 RS 2000 when looking for a car back in the late eighties and it was very average.

Yep I saw it and thought it was very poor, not enough time spent on showing the renovation of the car and to much time spent on the cockney idiot galavanting round the country and talking bol10x.

The mk1 is probably my all time favorite car, years ago my mate had a modena green one that I helped with a little bit on the bodywork side. It was registered as an avo mexico but he wasnt convinced it was geniune.
My father in law did have a geniune example in daytona yellow, he bought it brand new with a weeks wages!
He lent it to his mum to go shopping in, but she wondered what the fuss was about and why it was so slow, although she drove it with the handbrake still on.
When I was at college about 20 years ago, some kid in my class bought a mk1 mexico for his first car. He had it a week and sideswipped a telegraph pole. Tw@.

MK1 Escorts have some kind of massive halo round them and seem to be worshipped like exotics, I remember driving a few and, as standard they were ok at best, I had a MK 1600 GT Capri with the same engine, it had a little bit of grunt but they still took 11/12 seconds to get to sixty, the Escorts werent significantly faster and there was that copper rattling on about being able to easily keep pace with 3.0 GT Capris, er, no it wouldnt, either the Capri was broken or the driver was, there was 50 odd bhp difference. The Mexico isnt significantly faster than a Toyota Aygo.
I see young lads posting pictures of Escort Mexicos as being their dream car, I think they may come as a bit of a shock if they got to drive one. I think people get confused between a Mexico and the YB engined, four linked monsters that bear no relation to how they left the factory.
Someone should relase a body kit that transforms something cheaper, but capable into a MK1 lookalike, it can only be that lovely shape and the fact they were quick for the day, ok and a little bit fun as really there is loads of better stuff for twenty grand.
