Default £10

I was given a strange looking note marked 10 on the corners which transpired to be a Northern Ireland £10 note.

I assume this is valid all over UK?

I have seen plenty of Scottish notes but never anything from NI and, to be honest, I didn't even know that they had their own currency.

It has a piccie of some old boy who looks like WG Grace and, on closer inspection, is JB Dunlop, the tyre chap. Born in Scotland! Died in Dublin.

Yep, you can spend it, haven't encountered that in England in years. Last time I encountered this was in Deepcut around 1998, having taken a walk from the barracks, I stopped to grab a few things in a news agents shop, where they needed the explanation that it said sterling on the note. I think judging from their reactions I may have been the first person from NI they had ever met.

Don't most banks have their own branded sterling notes?

As for 'strange looking notes' - why do you Englanders get so uptight when presented with an N.I note (which is clearly marked sterling)

They were phased out after the robbery sure.

You English fella's should only accept these £10 notes.

Don't take it too personally, people will start mistaking you for a Jock

I've had notes and coinage from the Bailiwick of Guernsey, the Isle of Man, and Jockland rejected in the past. Basically English shopkeepers don't like anything that's even the slightest bit different

Well so long as you don't get the first one you'll be ok - huge bank robbery years ago saw all those notes withdrawn from circulation.

All banks here in N.I have their own branded notes, as do Scotland from memory.
Pretty sure English banks do the same

Don't think we do in England or Wales.
